Three-Star PG Commits to Hofstra
Re: Three-Star PG Commits to Hofstra
Watching the video, he reminds me of Jaquan Carlos but at least at this level he gets to the hoop better.
What do you guys think?

Captain, Great analysis, I agree. He looks like a good recruit with potential that Coach Speedy can develop.

Did not seehis passing skills or how he sets up his teammates
Did I miss something?

Agreed Stu, he might look like Carlos, but in that highlight video there was not a single drive and dish. Completely different games.

Comes from a basketball driven family where his brothers played basketball as well. One of his older brothers Malik played for both Merrimack and U of Albany. Here's the link https://ualbanysports.com/sports/mens-b ... dmead/9417
I've been following him a bit for a while now since I have a friend who knows the family. He has been talked about for a while now in basketball circles and he had received interest from some really good schools. He's a very good get for us.

It looks like we will be blending transfers with H.S kids who are ready to play right away meaning kids who r coming from prep schools and have had to play against strong competition. We're potentially getting more years from H.S. kids if we can retain them in this new landscape we're in.
Re: Three-Star PG Commits to Hofstra
We are seeing edited video where the player only shines. Agreed Jaquan would drive and then kick the ball out all the time. His shortcoming was his inability to consistently score on the drive. The recruit was scoring off the drive, why dish it off? I will be interested in hearing Speedy's take on the recruit.

Great news and great timing. I feel better already, Wags. Thanks for posting the link.
If you look at the article in Chrome Reader View, you will see several photos, including this one of Preston Edmead and his teammates. He's #3 in the middle:

Here are some excerpts from the article. I love what his coach has to say:
Boys basketball: No. 1 Williston thumps Exeter, captures NEPSAC Class A title
SUFFIELD, Conn. – Preston Edmead was made for March.
After monster games in the NEPSAC Class A quarterfinal and semifinal, the No. 1 Williston-Northampton School boys basketball guard capped off his stellar postseason with a game-high 26 points, including a 3-point barrage down the stretch to stamp the Wildcats’ 75-57 win over No. 2 Phillips Exeter on Sunday afternoon at Suffield Academy.
Edmead, a Hofstra commit and NEPSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, hit every big shot for Williston to help secure the program’s first NEPSAC crown since 2016.
“It was a crazy moment,” Edmead said. “The game was [winding] down, and I knew I had to take over. That just comes from confidence within my teammates, and within my coach. They know I had a good matchup, and they know I could do good there at the end. The confidence that comes from them is just great.”
He [Edmead] shrugged off a lot of contact from the Exeter defense – although frustrated there were no fouls being called – by hitting two highlight-reel 3s. Both came off of sweet crossover moves to create enough space to get a shot up, and each one swished through.
“It’s a pretty amazing feeling as a head coach when you have a player like that on the floor, especially at the point-guard spot,” Farmer said of Edmead. “He’s so solid with the basketball. He’s obviously scoring at a very high rate right now. He’s in his second year now with us, and his improvement and growth over two years has been tremendous. The kid’s an absolute junkie. He loves the game… He’s going to have an incredible college career.”

No highlights yet on YouTube, but keep watching. Hoping someone posts a few minutes of video.

It might not be much of a stretch that this kid who comes from a basketball family I believe his 3 brothers all played D1 basketball will start at PG. Here's some footage of him in a street yard game playing against Kiyan Anthony Carmelo's son. https://youtu.be/6x6czDWZA7o?si=_2kZ9GKGTiVW3_Mv

Coning from a basketball family with 3 older brothers who played D1 basketball
He will come in with an advantage
He will hopefully plsy like a high soph
Similar to Loren Stokes whose brother Lawrence played for Huggins at Cincinnati
Much like Antoine Agudio whose father Alex played college and pro ball in Israel

Re: Three-Star PG Commits to Hofstra
His other advantage will be unlike Carlos who came in with lofty expectations and had guards on this team like Jalen Ray,Cooks, Estrada and Silverio Preston will only have to beat out Robinson if everything remains the same in terms of PG's and we know that Kijon is not a true PG. Assuming he's everything he has been touted to be he could start and get lots of minutes. Looking forward to seeing him play.
Re: Three-Star PG Commits to Hofstra
Maybe we'll finally have some Rookie of the Week awards again with Edmead. Outside of Amar'e Marshall it's been a long drought, and even since him, it's now been a while. It would be nice to see that level of young, new talent back at Hofstra again instead of seeing that only for Hofstra's CAA rivals.

Re: Three-Star PG Commits to Hofstra
The deeper we got into that season the less the staff played Marshall though, and outside of him we've seen no evidence they have any interest or belief in playing freshman. Carlos I believe was at worst as hyped as Edmead seems to be, and he played 8 min a game and average 0.9 pts his freshman year.
Not saying Edmead won't turn out to be awesome, but hard to expect him to have any meaningful role next year based on the 4 years of evidence for Speedy
