Here's one for you. What Hofstra football player was drafted ahead of Tom Cassese (Lehigh's men's lax coach) by the same NFL team and played eight years in the NFL?

Boy I did not realize he lasted 8 years in the league.
Pretty impressive.
Not a prototypical running back. Fairly tall, not super fast and not a bruising back. He must have had some good instincts and could wait and find some holes. An over-achiever I think. Nice career.

Hofstra had a long history of sending overachievers to the NFL which makes the cancellation of a somewhat storied program so sad and gnawing.

I had to look up Tom Cassese (slightly before my time). I don't know that he was Lehigh's head mlax coach -- his son, Kevin, now at UVA, was -- but I believe Tom served as an assistant under his son for a year or two:

I remember watching Fran Lynch play for the Broncos, but did not know he was a Hofstra alum. Always heard about John Schmitt, Mike D'Amato, et al.

Looks like Fran and Tom were teammates at Denver in the late 1960s.
