Our men go on the on the road Saturday to West Long Branch, NJ, to take on Monmouth. As of today (Wednesday), both teams are 10-9 and 3-3. Monmouth faces Stony Brook tonight on SNY.

Our game will feature two of the CAA's top scorers. Xander Rice, son of HC King Rice, leads the Hawks with 21.3 ppg, just 0.4 ppg behind Tyler Thomas. Landon Glasper of NC A&T is tied with Rice at 21.3 ppg, and Trazerian White of UNCW is a close fourth at 20.7 ppg.

FloHoops will carry the game. Too bad the CAA can't flex this game to SNY, MSG or the CBS Sports Network.

Is anyone planning on going to the game? I'm most likely going as it's in-state for me now.

After our win over W&M and Monmouth's loss to SBU, we are 4-3 and Monmouth is 3-4. The top four teams in the conference are Drexel (7-1), UNCW (5-2), Charleston (5-2), and Towson (5-2). In the next few weeks, we face all of the top four teams at least once and face Drexel twice.

Hate to cite ESPN once again but they're giving us a 62% chance of winning playing away.

3-4 but 3-0 at home, including an eight-point win in which Monmouth held Towson to just 43 points. And Hofstra is 1-2 on the road. This will not be easy.

I watched some of the Monmouth-SBU game. Neither team looked good.

This game will be a huge determinant of where this team stacks up in the League...win this one and we start a run to reach the top four.
Lose this one and we're a middle of the pack squad.

The view from the Jersey Shore...nice that their hometown paper covers them!

https://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/202 ... mouth.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Hofstra at Monmouth." Plotnikov was the first star, which gives him 3 points, after he had 1 point for the season before that. That passes Robinson (2 points) and Sunday (1 point) for sixth in Jerry's standings. Winning 64-55 was not a unciorn score, but it was our second 64-55 win, and the previous one was against Bridgeport in 1951-1952. Thomas is 42 in career points for us with 1,003. He is 15 behind John Irving, and 19 behind James Shaffer. Thomas joined Juan'ya Green as our only players to score at least 1,000 for a school before us and at least 1,000 for us. Dubar is 34th in career points for us with 1,110. He is 18 behind Mike Moore (who led the CAA with 637 points in 2011-2012, when he was a senior after Charles Jenkins graduated), and 22 behind Wandy Williams.

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sc ... /2024.html has Monmouth's statistics. They have 19 players, including 17 who played, and 10 who played in at least 16 of 20 games. They used the same starters every game, who are Xander Rice, Jack Collins, Nikita Konstantynovskyi (from Kyiv, Ukraine), Jaret Valencia, and Jakari Spence. Those five, Abdi Bashir Jr., and Cornelius Robinson Jr. are their significant scorers, with their other players averaging 1.9 or fewer points and combining for 6.4 percent of their points. Rice has more points than their next two players combined.

https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/side ... ofstra.pdf is Monmouth's Game Notes.

https://www.flohoops.com/live/87637 will have video.

In today's first CAA game, Northeastern was favored by 9.5 hosting William & Mary, but the Tribe lead 48-42 with 11:40 left.

Towson at Delaware (favored by 1.5) on CBS Sports Network, North Carolina A&T at Drexel (favored by 17.5), Elon (favored by 1.5) at Hampton, and Charleston (favored by 9.5) at Campbell are at the same time as us. UNCW (favored by 4.5) at Stony Brook is at 4:00 P.M. on CBS Sports Network.

Watching Xander Rice go off is what it must have felt like for the rest of the CAA to play us with JWF and Estrada over the years. Gonna be a tough game

We lead 29-21.

Hampton is 0-8 in CAA, and had 30 points while Delaware (4-3), North Carolina A&T (4-3), and Drexel (7-1) had 30 points combined.

William & Mary blew a 10 point lead and won 72-68 at Northeastern.

HU throws up 50 pts in the first half. Really good shooting, but more importantly very good ball movement to get good looks. Very unselfish play! :D

We lead 50-38 at halftime. We made 11 of 17 threes, including 3 of 5 by Thomas. Thomas even missed a two, got his own rebound that was his fourth offensive rebound of the season, and scored. He scored 13, to go along with 5 rebounds to lead all players, 3 assists, and even got 3 minutes off. Dubar scored 10 in 11 minutes, and his playing time might have been reduced by his 2 fouls. Carlos scored 6, and led all players with 6 assists and 19 minutes. Robinson made 3 of 4 that were all threes to score 9 in 9 minutes, and Washington had 5 to make 14 bench points. Plotnikov shot 2-3 to score 5, and had 3 assists. Fritz shot 1-2 to score 2, and had 4 rebounds. We were +3 in Sunday's 4 minutes, and the rest of his statistics were zeroes. Xander Rice scored 17 to lead all players, and a majority was from 9 free throws. Mnmouth made 10 of 13 free throws, including being fouled in the act of shooting a three three times. We did not attempt a free throw until there were 17 seconds left when Carlos got fouled in the act of shooting a three that went in and out, and he made all 3. We had 1 more rebound, and a great ratio of 12 assists to 5 turnovers.

Totally agree. For better or worse this is why the coaching staff tells them to keep shooting, cause a half like that wow. Besides 1 from Tyler and 1 from KJ, really think just about all the other 3pt attempts were in rhythm and quality looks within the flow of the offense. Probably why the percentage is way up today so far.

Loved the effort on the defensive boards that half. And thought that might have been Speedys best substition half so far this year - mixed and matched well, got everyone a little rest

Had to figure Monmouth was gonna make a run at home. They've done a nice job of taking advantage of Hofstra going small after Fritzs 3rd foul

Fritz picks up his 4th foul with 12:42 to play. Could be the turning point

Blew another one. Great first half and horrible second half. This is just who they are this year. Can look good but can also look very bad.

Not mentally tough. Terrible foul by Washington. No clue what they were doing on the final play - didn’t even set up for a 3 to tie it. Getting harder to watch.

Agree - tough to watch. Even when they play well for a spurt, I feel like I'm just waiting for them to fall apart or make some bonehead plays!
