MBB Game 10 - @ Columbia - 12/20/14, 7 PM

In their last games, Columbia held No. 1 Kentucky to 56 points and lost by just 10, and Hofstra outscored No. 300 Coppin State by 40 points. Most of Columbia's games have been relatively low-scoring affairs. Who will prevail: the better defensive team or the better offensive team?

I wouldn't say that they are the better defensive team. Their style is to lint possessions, hold the ball, etc. key for us will be if and when we get our big guys back. If they can play I think we can win comfortably.

I think you are right HUSID/ Columbia has a number of bigs including a former HU recruit from L.I. named Luke Petrasek. With their best player gone for the year, they are more of a guard oriented team that can rotate about 4 bigs but really only one big that is effective. If Gustys is back and effective that would be great.

Was thinking the same thing... GoHofstra bills the game as "huge"

As the quality of Ivy basketball overall has improved so much, with Harvard leading the way, Columbia could be the next big thing in NYC if they are able to make a run. I'm sure this is a way for Hofstra to try and slow down that momentum. I don't know about huge, but it's a big game for them.

Columbia is 5 points away from being 7-1. The Lions lost @ Stony Brook by 1 and @ Loyola by 2:

In addition, the Lions play UConn on Monday. That could be good for us.

The Chronicle's game preview. There's a good breakdown of Columbia's team. http://thehofstrachronicle.com/scouting ... manhattan/

According to www.teamrankings.com Columbia plays the lowest scoring games in Division in terms of points per game + opponents' points per game. That site only includes games between two Division I teams.

One Columbia fan seems to feel the same way. They're also concerned how their team will perform after having a 10 day break for exams, not sure if they realize we and the same break. http://boards.basketball-u.com/showpost ... st/178026/

I will possibly admit that the final exams at an Ivy versus the finals at Hofstra might take a little more of a mental toll. At Harvard, the hockey team basically stopped showing up to practice to study for 2 weeks. Not that Hofstra really gives any leniency to athletes like Ohio State or anything, but they Ivies have ZERO sympathy for theirs.

Not to get too political, but some ivy law schools where giving students final exam postponements because of "stress" related thier involvement in recent social protests.................I don't think I would be hiring any of those future attorneys.

SNY had pregame at 7:00 but the game actually started at 7:30. It's tied at 15.

Columbia giving UConn all they can handle. Down 3 at the half after a buzzer beating 3 to put the Huskies up.
