Anybody know the best way if not planning on driving? Any direct subway route/train route? Or should I just bank on an expensive Uber ride up there?

The 1 subway goes all the way up to 242nd, which is right by Manhattan College I believe. If you're coming from LI I'd try to take the A from Penn as it's express up to 168th Street. Then you can transfer there to the 1 and go the rest of the way up. Don't know how long the ride is in total but the A from Penn to 168 isn't bad--maybe 20-25 minutes?
