We're 7.5 point favorites in this game. Let's keep moving forward in a positive direction. Their star center Butler missed the last two games and may be out for this one. We're undefeated at home and stay undefeated. O/U 149.5

ESPN has us as 8 point favorites and gives us a 77.1 percent chance of winning. Checking the Drexel boards it looks like Butler, Oden and Brown did not play against Northeastern...not sure what their status is for today's game.

A Drexel fan said Butler is injured, and Oden and Brown have COVID. None of them traveled to Northeastern. When all of their players are available, they have ten regulars, and their other four players combined to play 20 minutes. Even without those three, their worst four didn't play on Saturday. Those three combined for 27 percent of their points in 26 percent of their minutes, and those percents were higher before they didn't play on Saturday. Sub forward Amari Williams leads the CAA with 1.8 blocked shots, and averages more rebounds and assists per minute than Butler. Williams' problems are shooting .467 (bad for a player who hasn't made a three), which is .099 worse than Butler, and Williams commits three times as many turnovers per minute as Butler. Butler has blocked two shots, and Drexel fans say he doesn't defend well by the basket, so he isn't as good as his statistics look.

Mate Okros, Oden (who won't play), and Coletrane Washington attempt mostly threes, and the rest of their players don't attempt many. Okros and Washington combined to have 83 percent of their attempts be threes. Camren Wynter has 28 percent of his attempts be threes, which is low for a guard. Wynter is 0.05 behind Estrada for the CAA lead in assists. If the season was over now, Wynter would be second in the CAA in assists for the fourth consecutive season behind a different player each season. He was second to UNCW's Kai Toews, Buie, and Burgess. Wynter passed 500 assists on Saturday, is approaching the top ten in CAA history, could end the season in the top five, and if he plays a fifth season he should easily break the CAA record of 714 by Navy's Doug Wojcik, who got to pass to David Robinson, who is the CAA's leader in points and rebounds. Wynter will probably end this season with an amount that would be third in Hofstra history behind Claxton and Robbie Weingard. His current amount would be sixth in Hofstra history behind those two, Darius Burton, Buie, and Frank Walker.

https://static.caasports.com/custompage ... M#team.ind has Drexel's statistics. They are second to us in assist/turnover ratio. Williams has 21 of their 38 blocks. They have only 4.7 steals, which is last in the CAA. Their opponents shoot free throws only .687, which hopefully will go up.

Wynter leads them with 14.7 points, but he doesn't shoot well. He shoots threes .265, which is down from .415 last season. He's third behind Butler and Williams with 5.1 rebounds. Melik Martin averages 10.5 points and shoots well. Xavier Bell averages 10.3 points and shoots well, but he averages 1.4 rebounds, and it's hard for a starter to average that few even if he's short. Mate Okros averages 6.8 points and shoots threes .390. Williams averages 6.4 points and 5.8 rebounds. Coletrane Washington averages 4.3 points and shoots threes .283, with only 13 twos attempted. Matey Juric averages 2.5 points. At a time when so many players transfer, it's impressive that four of their top nine in minutes were in their top nine in minutes three seasons ago.

That makes a score of 79.5-71. KenPom predicts 79-73.

http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2022 ... fstra.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Drexel at Hofstra." Saturday ended a streak of eight consecutive wins that were unicorn scores, which is the first time won by that score. Before Saturday, our last 82-77 win was against Florida State in the Virgin Islands on November 20, 2015, when Green and Tanksley were seniors. Estrada became our first player to score at least 30 without making a three since JWF on January 26, 2017. In the post-East Coast Conference era, five Hofstra players did that, including Jenkins, Stokes, and Claxton. Estrada joined Cooks and Silverio as our players to score at least 20 in a half this season.

Tied at halftime, 31-31. Not too bad considering HU only led for :48 and Drexel led for 12:59.

Bell (already three above his average) leads Drexel with 13. Estrada and Ray have 10 each.

22-10, Drexel in the paint.

17 combined 3s attempted out of 61 combined shots.
On Saturday, 32 of 52 combined attempts were from 3 in the first half.

46-44, Hofstra coming out of the U-12 in the second half.

Has become the Estrada (18 pts and 8 of HU's 15 in the half) vs. Bell (21 pts and 8 of DU's 13 in the half) battle a little bit.

Gutty win for us. Ray and Estrada put this team on their backs in the second half.

Great display of mid range shooting from both when the threes wouldn't drop.

Questionable call by the refs taking one of our points off the board well after Estrada was credited with a three.

Undefeated at home!??

I had a great view of that shot by Estrada from my seats. It was clearly a 2. Was actually surprised ref called it a three at first.

We won 71-68. In the first half, Drexel led by 7, we went up 2, Drexel went up 7, and it was 31-31 at halftime. The largest lead of the second half was 6 by us, but Drexel took the lead after that. Drexel might have won ifthey hadn't called timeout to negate Dubar missing the first of a one-and-one, and he made both. Estrada was shooting free throws .952 before shooting a one-and-one on our next possession. His first shot rolled on the rim, went in, and he made both. The game ended with Camren Wynter's three to tie rimming out. Mate Okros got the offensive rebound and had time to shoot, but shooting a two wouldn't have helped unless he got fouled, and he passed the ball to a guy behind the three-point lane too late to shoot. It was the second time in the last seven head-to-head games that ended with Drexel down 3 and missing a three.

Estrada had 26 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. He continued to shoot threes poorly as he missed all 4, and he had two threes reviewed and changed to twos. Ray shot 8-14 and scored 18. Dubar scored 15. Iyiola scored 3 and tied Amari Williams with 9 rebounds. Silverio shot 3-10 and had 7 points and 5 rebounds. Simmons made his only field goal. In 14 minutes, he had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, our only block, 1 steal, and 4 fouls. I thought I heard Simmons missed a three, which surprised me, but I guess it wasn't him. Burgess played 16 minutes and hardly did anything. He didn't shoot, and his only nonzero statistics were 1 rebound and us -1 while he played. Carlos didn't shoot in 3 minutes, and his only contributions were negative with 1 turnover and us -1 while he played. Iyiola played 21 minutes, and Simmons played 15, so for a little bit we used five guards. We were +13 when Simmons played, -4 when Iyiola played, and -6 with five guards. Estrada played the whole game, Silverio got 1:30 off, and Dubar got 4 minutes off. Drexel had 7 more rebounds. We committed only 5 turnovers, but Drexel had 11 points off them, and we had 4 points off Drexel's 10 turnovers. I wonder how rare it is for a team to have at least double the turnovers and at least double the points off turnovers. Jerry Beach likes the show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. If Drexel won, today would have been Saved by the Bell. Xavier Bell shot 13-17, made 10 of 11 twos, and led all players with 30 points, and led Drexel with 5 assists. Wynter had 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Melik Martin had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Amari Williams shot 1-6 and free throws 2-3 to score 4. He led all players with 9 rebounds and 2 blocks. Okros had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Washington scored 5. Juric scored 2. For the second consecutive game, Drexel used seven players.

There were 23 lead changes, and nobody led by more than 3 in the last 9:19. Counting a three-point play as one score, from 6:57 to 0:48 all ten scores were lead changes.

Here are analytics with efficiency/game score/net points:

Xavier Bell: 30/24/19.9
Estrada: 26/20.7/17.8
Ray: 16/12.6/7.6
Dubar: 15/11.9/2.5

Net points does not add to 0. It adds to 9.4 for us, and 7.8 for Drexel.

https://gohofstra.com/sports/mens-baske ... core/11479 is the box score. The attendance was 1,106.

The other afternoon game was a blowout. Elon got an offensive rebound and dunk with 2 seconds left to reach 90 and win 90-67 hosting JMU. Hunter McIntosh, Darius Burford, and Kris Wooten combined to make 17 of 27 threes and have 13 assists. The teams combined to not use 4 timeouts, there weren't fouls trying to come back in a close game, and that game ended 19 minutes after your game.

TY Cactus I've already posted this twice. He not only scores unbelievable in the mid range but can handle the rock and he's money from the FT line. His weakness is from beyond the arc obviously @25%.

What was really frustrating watching this game was the way we let them score on 8-10 footers in and around the paint. I believe that if Cramer was available and in this game he would have had some blocked shots on some of those easy shots they were scoring on. It was just too easy especially Bell who we didn't defend very well.
