This puts a major monkey wrench into the aspirations of next years team which was going to revolve around Apsel. Kudos to her for her O/S contributions to HU softball. A very tough loss!

Our focus has to be on pitching now and hoping that Venturini can come back healthy.

So just seeing that apparently we must have lost Kristyn Sandberg as we have now hired Nikki Amodeo a former softball player at Adelphi and asst. coach for UCONN. Former HU player Laura Valentino is the now coach at UCONN and apparently very successful there winning 31 games last year. This helped Amodeo get the asst. coaching job here I'm sure. IDK where Coach Sandberg has moved on to assuming she's still coaching? https://gohofstra.com/news/2024/7/10/so ... coach.aspx

I was able to go see our softball team play Iona today and we came away with a 2-1 win. Emma Brennan started this game and pitched relatively well. I believe she pitched 4 innings giving up 1 run and a few walks. One of our freshman name unknown(no score sheets) pitched 2 innings and I was delighted to see Haley Venturini back on the mound after missing a lot of 2022 and most of 2023. Our best pitcher two years ago until she got injured. She gave us an impressive two innings and had 4 K'S. Also a bright spot sophomore Gabby Sultan went yard to straight away center field. She will hopefully provide us with some power that we lost when Becca Vaillancourt graduated.

On a side note both Zyheima Swint and Alarice Gooden were sitting in front of me and I was able to chat with them during the game about our women's basketball team this year. Zyheima told me that we have a much better team then last year with a lot of shooters and that will be able to take the pressure of Emma to do the bulk of the scoring. Looking forward to a winning year if that's possible.

For those of us that follow the softball team our complete roster is now on gohofstra. Out of the 7 new players 3 are pitchers indicative of the needs of this team after losing Julia Apsel to Florida State.
