How about our freshman point guard with 5 assists and no turnovers in 20 minutes. Also had 2 nice drives to the basket and played good D. I'd say he is coming along nicely in year 1.

From what I've seen, not only is DB the best TRUE PG on this team, but he's also one of the best I've seen in the CONF

He's unstoppable in the open floor, has a ridiculous handle, breaks down the press with ease, handles double-teams and tight spaces, is quick as lightening, and has broken more ankles than anyone in his first yr I've seen since Speedy. I don't think anyone can guard the kid, and he himself happens to be a super defensive guy - it's a heckuva combo, and not too shabby for someone a lot of you were crying was too skinny and would get killed in the CAA - yes, he needs some weight, but I'd say he's handling himself just fine.

The area that needs big improvement is his scoring - he can get open like nobody's business, so he's gonna need to knock down those open shots at a much higher % next yr - he doesn't need to score 20 a game, but he will be called upon to score more and to be a real threat - otherwise the space he creates for himself won't matter much

Even still, he's a real leader - he's going to run this O to perfection, and to me, really already has so far this yr - VERY impressed.

And just for bob and jojo, so you know when he's a first teamer in a yr or 2, he's a 3 star :D oh, and he was the starting PG for one of the top HS teams in the NATION, and showcased it in front of a national audience as he led his team to the national HS championship game. Not a game, THE game. And he was an absolute stud in it.

I mean, I guess that's 'ok' recruiting from this staff here at ol HU.

Game was as tough and close as I expected this time, with the good guys coming out on top - bench may not have scored a lot tonight, bit they did their part with enough minutes to keep the key guys in position to win - I like JM going with Buie for D late in the game for BB is the situation calls for it - that's how you use your bench
JAM made 13 substitutions over the final 15:23, three subs over the final :15 and seven over the final 4:54.

Sometimes one starter for another, leaving a reserve in, but often reserve for starter for a quick rest and then starter back in for the reserve.

He was more conscious this game of giving the starters a brief rest before sending them back in and going offense for defense and vice versa late in the game.

That said, they were up 13 with 6:38 left before those final seven subs, and the lead got down to a one possession game in the final minute at 83-80, before FTs were needed to seal a win that should have been easier. The lead also went from that 13 down to just 6 in about 2 minutes with Buie and Walker in for Bernardi and Gutsys, so JAM was forced to go right back to Bernardi and Gustys for Buie and Walker.

So you can see why JAM had rested on the starters so heavily, even late, with them seemingly tired all season. But it did work out and they got the win. So we'll see how he plays that going forward.

JMU is at UNCW while HU is at Delaware. The likelihood that HU stays two back is pretty good, but there's a chance HU could get within a game of UNCW, with a trip to UNCW still left for HU.

Completely agree Polito. next year and beyond, DB will be Rok's JG!

In high school, DB was a high percentage 3 pt shooter who also shot over 80% from the FT line. The kid can shoot, and I don't think it will be long before it starts to show. As you correctly stated, he knows how to get open and create space, so its not like he will need to shoot over people. As such, just like in high school, he'll be hitting plenty of outside shots. He won't take so many that the opposition will guard him like BB, rather he'll hit just enough to compliment his scoring from driving and will end up being a good complimentary scorer. His focus will be on running the "O" and dishing, not scoring.

And remember, next year we will have Powers (who has already shown to be an accomplished scorer) to split time with DB. Next year will be the final piece when DB gets even more playing time, more confidence, more scoring opportunities.......all while the pressure will not be entirely on him as the only point guard on the team. We really could not ask for a better situation for DB to grow, and as you say Polito, become the top level point guard in the CAA. The future is very bright for him.

The future is bright for the entire team, in my opinion. Despite what we lose after this season, I'm still excited for next year. We have a lot of potential with the young players, as well as the 3 players red shirting this year. Buie especially showed his potential next season. I think the team will be in good hands with him as the PG next year, and it's great that he's getting time to work on the court with Rokas this season so they can be a nice tandem next season.

The Buie curse is lifted. This Buie has already been better all the way around (on the court, and especially off the court) than the last Buie to play for HU.

50 points in the paint last night. That was a big reason why we won as well.

Absolutely. That's what happens when Juan'ya and others (even Bernardi to an extent) drive and when the team looks for Rok on the blocks enough instead of chucking up too many 3s.

Only 1/3 of the shots taken were 3s -- 21 3s (made 8) on 63 shot attempts. A lot of times, half of their shots are 3s.

And what do you know, you CAN score as much as 86 points and CAN win despite giving up as much as 80 on the road when you play that way.

Just hope they learn from that instead of going back to their old ways.

Now that my blood pressure has returned to normal, I can share my take on the game!

What. A. Game.

Again, we played great for 34.5 minutes, and our defense was solid in crunch-time, great charge taken by Buie with 2 mins left, but we could not hit a dagger late to end it. I love that the coaching staff made adjustments that were available, they left Buie in late, called the TO when Rok grabbed the board so he didn't have to go to the free throw line, we did some little things to grab the win.

Both teams had tremendous offensive efforts, I have to give credit to Cohn and Prewitt on W&M, they did so many things right offensively. I thought we got their best effort last night, which makes the win just that much more sweet.

Juan'ya was unbelievable, it's almost unfair we have a guy like that running the offense. Buie was great as well. Assists on 61% of FG in a fast paced game like that is a great stat. What else can you say about Rok, the guy is a man amongst boys. If he could hit free throws, he'd probably be the POY this year.

Great efforts from Tank, Bernardi and Koon, they did all the little things right, the team has played great in CAA play minus the last 5 minutes of the game. I can't believe we had 15 turnovers, which needs to be improved and will probably help us salt away these games early if we can limit to 12 or fewer. I would say FT were a problem, but we would have been fine if Rok wasn't taking a good chunk of them.

Can't believe W&M has the gall to complain about the refs, as some are on their message board, the refs had no impact on the game which is how it's supposed to be, the Buie charge was easily the right call. W&M's big problem is how soft and flat-footed their forwards play, they suck. While I do think Rok makes it a point to embarrass "Manbun" Sheldon, none of their forwards really wanted any part in guarding Rokas. I give the freshman, Seacat some credit, I thought he hung well, frankly he should be their starter, Sheldon and Whitman give W&M so little defensively.

Gotta take care of business at UDel, glad they got the win over Drexel. While I do think UD is better than their record based on their talent, it's a MUST WIN GAME for us.

One last note, in addition to the substitution pattern changing late in games throughout the year, maybe we just suck the air out of the ball too much. While it makes sense to slow the pace down in the last minutes to limit possessions on both sides, WE seem to be hurt by the change of pace. We probably shouldn't take the foot off the pedal in Baltimore, regardless if we have to play three games in three days.

Fun fact, Polito will like this one. Hofstra collectively has not lost to William and Mary in anything so far this season. Most games between the schools have taken place at W&M this season, but all of the ones at Hofstra weren’t even close.

Scores
MSOC: 1-0, 2OT in Williamsburg
WSOC: 2-1 in Williamsburg. The Tribe’s only regular season conference loss.
FH: 3-2 in Williamsburg
VB: 3-0 sweep in Hempstead, 3-1 in Williamsburg
MBB: 91-63 in Hempstead, 86-80 in Williamsburg
WBB: 75-45 in Hempstead, 61-53 in Williamsburg

Percent of Hofstra's field goal attempts that were three-pointers:

Overall: .398
Lowest: .255
Median: .404
Highest: .618
Games with 1/3rd or fewer: 7 (28 percent)
Games with more than 1/3rd and 40 percent or fewer: 5 (20 percent)
Games with greater than 40 percent and 45 percent or fewer: 8 (32 percent)
Games with greater than 45 percent and 50 percent or fewer: 3 (12 percent) (1 between 45 and 50 percent and 2 at exactly 50 percent)
Games with greater than 50 percent: 2 (8 percent)

Hofstra has played 25 games, so in the last five rows each game is exactly 4 percent. The last sentence I quoted is wrong.
