MBB attendance VS performance

SBU is very family friendly. How do you think they draw several crowds over 10,000 in a stadium that fits only 8,500. During the summer they have family movie night where families take their kids and sit on the football field while watching movies on an HD scoreboard. They draw over 5,000 for that event alone. Its free, families are exposed to the football and lax stadium. They have other "free events for families. As far as Fordham , its in an antiquated gym and coming off their 5th straight 20 loss season.

We have about 2 million people in nassau county while Suffolk has about 1.5 spread out over 4 times the area.

NCAA sports just aren't as popular in the New York City area as they are in the rest of the country. FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) has 128 teams and Rutgers is the only one in the New York City area. Yesterday in Men's Basketball, St. John's and Syracuse were both at home. Syracuse and St. John's were both 0-4 in conference before yesterday when Syracuse won and St. John's lost. St. John's is in the much bigger city, but Syracuse got over double the attendance. Iona, who has the seventh longest active home winning streak and has been in the Top 100 in the RPI in the last six complete seasons, was at home on Saturday January 9 at 4:00 P.M. and got only 1,476 fans. Yesterday St. John's, Rutgers, and Fordham lost by a total of 80 points and all three of them lost by at least 20.

Evan I stand corrected. Still 1,3 mil and we cant draw flies. Ionas gym is small so expect about crowds about 1,500. St johns hasnt been good there is no buzz at all. We were expected to win the CAA and what has the school done to promote this team or the womens team.

Lets see what the rest of season looks like. If we can raise our avg attendance to over 2K then that would be fine. We just need to avg 2,500 the rest of the season.

SBU attendance was 2,381 last night vs. AE power UMBC.

Thats their lowest attendance all year. Their avg attendance is now 3,048. Our best was 2,106.

Like I said hoping that we avg 2,000 for the year but we need to draw 2,500 the rest of the way.

I was driving this morning and had the car radio on......channel surfing and got to rock station 103.1, heard a good song and left it on. Song ends and first commercial is an advertisement for Seawolves basketaball "Come to the big rivalry between SB and ALbany" - then a player comes on and says several sentences about the upcoming game. Then the ad ends with "come on out, don't forget to dress in red, and root our seawolves to victory"

There have been some scattered Hofstra BBall ads on ESPN radio promoting a two for one ticket deal...Problem is nothing has enough weight and frequency to make a difference...Most things I see seem to be make goods for something or scattered about...no consistent program

Hate to say it but the best ads were that of Mary Beth Carey. Yes they were campy but they worked. Everyone knew her and Hofstra locally back then.

Both Jack Hayes and Jeff Hathaway came from UConn. I had a good relationship and have a good one with both. They seem to want to do things the way it was done at UConn. Difference is this is a small private school and UConn a big state school. What works for one may not work for the other. Remember the film Cool Runnings. They tried to bobsled like the Swiss but it didnt work. IN order for it to work for them they had to bobsled 'jamaican". So I think we have to do things "Hofstra". Get back to our roots and do things locally. Bring back the 50-50 raffle at games. We need to reach out more to the community. Get local high school players come to the games. Wear your jersey get in free! Same for the womens games. Invite the local coaches to seminars and build a relationship. Maybe even invite local high school teams to watch a practice.

Every year, Hofstra hosts "What I Want to Be Day" for students at local elementary schools. They're all bussed in, learn about future careers, and then stay and watch a women's basketball game. At the event last year (vs Drexel), there was a crowd of 1,864 people. I was at the game one year since the game happened to be in between classes, and the environment was awesome, with all of the kids cheering. Hofstra should give these kids vouchers (free child ticket with purchase of an adult ticket, free food with purchase, any kind of deal or discount would work) to come back to a game of their choosing (men's or women's) with their families. Based on the excitement most of the kids had, I'm sure they went home and told their parents all about it. If they have a ticket voucher, that's good incentive for families to go and support the teams.

That brings our attendance avg down to 1,278. Our lowest total since opening the Mack was 1,468, the year after the theft scandal. Only 7home games left in the season.

there are a gazillion ways to properly and effectively market this program, and nearly none of them are being done

great to see that ad, but they are WAY too few and far between, and quite frankly, WAY too late in the game - there should've been a comprehensive PLAN put together and implemented before the season even started - trying to play catch now is a joke for whoever is in charge

They need to be held accountable and removed from this role - then HU needs to bring in a top notch group to get the job done.

I would wager about 75% of LI and the entire ti-state are even aware of what HU basketball is and the quality it offers to the fan - the fact that there are no fans and worst than ever attendance in a VERY good year is nothing more than laziness, apathy, and complete ineptitude on behalf of whoever is in charge of marketing.
