As of this morning Lunardi has us playing against Gonzaga in Portland...HORRIBLE!
Lunardi now has it as (4) Vanderbilt vs. (13) Hofstra in Tampa.
Penn just beat Yale in the final of the ivy tourney moving hofstra up a rung

He still has Vandy/Hofstra with Penn in there. T.J. Power was unbelievable: 43 pts, 14 reb, hit two 3s in the final :15 of regulation to send it to OT, then had the late defensive board in OT to seal it.
Hofstra held him to 10 pts on 3/10 fg. We didn't know we were watching two eventual NCAA tourney teams in The Palestra then!

Lunardi moved Northern Iowa up to the final 12 in Yale's spot (playing in SD), Troy up a line to 13 (playing St John's in Portland), and put Penn in as a 14. I'd honestly rather be 13 in Tampa than a 12 in San Diego. And after what St John's looked like at MSG last night don't exactly want any part of them either, as fun as that game would be.
But the speculation will all be over soon enough!

Sorry for being pedantic but the committee tries to avoid R1 matchups for teams in the same state

Bama it is! AARON ESTRADA REVENGE GAME!
Tampa much better than west coast. No 12/13s in Philly. Couldn't have done much better in that case for a site
Edit: The 13s were sent to San Diego, Portland, OKC and Tampa. Best possible travel in that case.

Bama is the #1 scoring team in the country, and we are a pretty good defensive team. We need to slow them down!!

Much happier playing a team we can score against rather than an elite defensive team.
After slowing down W&M how hard can Bama be anyway?

Unless we win two games, we will start and end our season in Florida 100 miles apart. We started at Central Florida.
There are worse seeds who are playing near home. 13 seed California Baptist is under two hours from San Diego, so 4 seed Kansas could be mad to play California Baptist there. 7 seed Miami (Florida) could be mad at facing Missouri in St. Louis.
There are already lines. Arizona is the biggest favorite at 29.5, but the 1 seeds who play First Four teams do not have odds. We are underdogs by 12.5 with an over/under than makes a score of 87-74.5. Alabama or us will play Texas Tech or Akron, and Texas Tech is favored by 8.5. Akron won 19 of their last 20 games, and we won 11 of our last 12, so the power conference teams are facing hot opponents.

I like our matchup and chances. Alabama is guard oriented and so are we.
Even Seth Davis picked us to beat Alabama.

ESPN gives us a 9.9% chance of winning. We are 13.5 pt underdogs on FanDuel (+590 money line)

In the NET, RPI, and six ratings on team sheets that the Selection Committee uses, 1 gave Alabama a 3 seed, 3 gave them a 4 seed, and 4 gave them a 5 seed. I was hoping that I would think the 5 seed was better than the 4 so that I could pick us and only cost myself a First Round game if we lose, but Alabama is better than 5 seed Texas Tech. I will pick Alabama to win so that we win or I get the game right. If I pick us to win and we lose, I lose points than most people get.
Alabama is first in points per game, and second in threes made per game. They attempt more threes than twos, and they do not have anybody who does not shoot threes. Sunday and Onuetu need to practice guarding threes. They have Labaron Philon Jr. who is 12th in Division I with 21.7 points per game, five double-digit scorers, three players averaging over 3 assists, and a great assist/turnover ratio.
We will have the only First Round game in which both teams have a player averaging at least 20 points. Lehigh vs. Prairie View A&M will have that in the First Four. The other game in our doubleheader will kind of have that, but Texas Tech's JT Toppin is out for the season.

Well he said his reason for picking us was his in laws went to Hofstra. I’d prefer we’d of gotten Nebraska but if nothing else it should be a high scoring run and gun type game. Which would be a lot different than the last 2 games we played, especially the Towson one.

Slow down the game and we've got a chance.

I don't like the draw.
Hofstra is at its best in a slower game, holding teams under 70 points (they're 21-1 when that happens).
When they got up in the 80s, giving up a bunch of 3s (lost at W&M, 89-82 and lost to Elon at home, 89-85), it wasn't their game. That's more likely against Alabama (we saw what happened with Charleston and Alabama in the NCAAT two years ago, when even a 62-point second half for the Cougars wasn't enough to prevent a 109-96 loss).
BUT they do have a shot if they can somehow limit Alabama's 3s (easier said than done). Hofstra is 4th in the nation in opposing FG%, going against the team that is the nation's highest-scoring team (91.7 ppg), built mainly on making the second-most 3s per game. If Bama is taking and making a lot of 3s as usual, it's game over. If Hofstra can limit that enough, they'll have a shot. Would much rather have had a different style though, one that would play into Hofstra holding a team under 70, and I don't see that with Alabama. But we don't know until they play. ROLL PRIDE over the TIDE.
