Rather than bump up an old topic, I'm posting something about 2024-2025 now that the tournament is complete. Only including games against Division I teams, we led the 364 Division I teams in opponents' two-point field goal percentage at .426. It probably helped that top teams had to play other top teams in the tournament.

So with only the scraps left in the portal to fill out the team now, what is our current depth chart at the moment?

G - Cruz Davis
G - Carlos Lopez (what's this kids deal anyway... was he actually injured last yr? We'd be lucky to land a kid who averaged 9 ppg at a D1 school like he did at this point)
G - Josh Reaves (will give D1 transfer nod over d2 kid)
G/F - German (if even eligible???)
C - Sunday (lol)

Bench:
Big - DeCady (can't start him at the 4 unless we land another big)
G - Edmead
G - Trey Boyd
G - Amir Williams (what was that kids deal last yr?)

Hate to say it but if German isn't eligible and Edmead isn't like the best freshman we've ever had, that on paper looks like one of the worst rosters we've ever assembled since joining the CAA

I unfortunately agree dutchPride86. Yikes. That team couldn't compete in the AE or NEC or maybe even at high D2. What is the coaching staff thinking and how could they have slept on this.

I've seen a recently as today that Plotnikov is eligible and returning, but I'm not sure.

In either case, here's a very nice piece on him that was published in The Chronicle today:

It appears Plot is IN from what I read. I know Junior College no longer counts as time. MSU has a 24 year old who was 2 years JC (So this will be his 6th year. Is Community college the same as JC. If so he's eligible!

Does Hofstra have team captains in mens basketball
If so maybe naming him team captain this year will be a plus for the team

Ouch this is bottom tier roster. At a minimum, It needs not one but two legit star level transfers ready to compete Day 1 to even have a chance to be competitive. Dark days ahead.

Just went on the team site - we have 6 listed players - lol - that's amazing and pathetic.

At least that's six more than Baylor recently had (or still has - have they signed anyone yet?)

In the meantime, here's even more for Hofstra to deal with in the CAA: https://x.com/mid_madness/status/1915110854451982430

I'm not worried about Baylor - if we are anywhere close to them when all is said and done I'll be ecstatic!

Yeah, I was just kidding. Agreed, I bet that even with no players now, they'll still end up with a lot better roster than HU before November. :)

Worth a trip to Philly to see Hofstra play at the hallowed Palestra:

Also cool to have LaSalle (with Mihalich and Curtin) involved. It's full round robin, so Hofstra should be playing them at some point over the three days.

That's such a great venue (and less than a half hour from me)
Putting it on my calendar now!

Getting back to our roster
I understand that practices are limited, but there is no limit on informal practices
Where the players practice by themselves with no coaches
The fact that UNCW, Charleston and Towson have most of their roster set can give them an advantage over us because the players will now be able to get familiar with each other a lot sooner
How do you guys feel about that?

Happy to hear about the Palestra games. So far this has been the worst recruiting effort in recent memory. Geez, what's going on.

We have had many late signings. I'm hearing that we are real close to several signees. I agree its been a frustrating spring but we have to beleive that this staff will get it done.

If not, we need to take a good hard look at this program in the NIL era, as apparently several of our closest competitors have raised the ante significantly.

It's not the timing itself, it's the caliber of players and the chances of that caliber being lower the longer it takes to sign. Yes, they always have late signings each year, but in the current climate vs. before, are they now going after scraps late vs. higher caliber players late before? That's what it feels like when we see who other conference rivals have already signed and what they've spent to sign them, and in the meantime, no communication from HU that the money is there to match that. Yes, they'll get players late merely because they have to fill out the roster, but will they be significant enough additions?

I don't think there will be any practices informal or otherwise until the new players have been actually enrolled in school so this may be somewhat of a moot issue.
