Assuming we have six slots to fill…does Speedy save two for Silas and Biggie? First off, they have to want to stay another year. I assume Speedy will be having that conversation with them. Second, does the NCAA make the proposed, new five-in-five rule retroactive, which seems likely, to avoid litigation.
Interesting problem in the insane new world of college sports.

It would be absolute chaos, even by the NCAAs inept standards, if that rule was to go into effect retroactively later this summer making guys like Sunday eligible. But fwiw, according to verbal commits Sunday did enter the portal yesterday before the deadline. He's not alone in that regard, all of UNCWs seniors put their names in yesterday as well, so it seems many of these guys are preparing/hoping to be granted an extra year of eligibility.

With two new 7 footers I'm not so sure Sunday would fir into our plans for next year. Would however take Biggie as this roster as currently configured needs some wings as Polito has also advocated for..

On paper, Speedy has already put together a high quality backcourt for next year. Jaeden Roberts would have been in a dogfight for playing time.

Aaron Davis, Bryant's fourth-leading scorer last season (9.5 ppg) and a Bay Shore, NY native, going to Hampton.

Hofstra gets a commitment from JUCO guard Nick Jefferson out of Salt Lake Community College. Averaged 10 5 and 3 as a freshman last year.

Oh, also, DP86, to follow up regarding Lopez - so it's definitely a 'risk' on my part as you're totally right on him being out of the game for a bit, but he was brought here for a reason and has had a lot of staff hype. I think he's of the mold to be turned into a star under Speedy - in fact, he was going to be the Preston before Preston lol.
He'll have to prove it on the floor and show he's coming back in full form post injury - if he's fully healthy and shakes off the cobwebs, he's got the goods IMO.
But I'm very happy to have these other guys in the fold as there is absolutely a chance he doesn't have "it" coming back. But I do believe the staff is very high on him (as am I) and he's marked for a breakout as he's been waiting patiently in the wings to be 'the guy'.
Fingers crossed on Lopez then. Having him and the freshman Xavier Blake both penciled in coming off the bench right now makes for terrific guard depth (if Lopez is healthy and Blake as advertised).
Also while I think safe to expect both DeCady and Tanner Thomas to start, wonder if we wind up seeing a lot of Lopez/Blake subbing in for one of them and Hofstra playing 3 guards for longer stretches (as opposed to subbing in a backup forward, which we currently don't have yet, for DeCady and Thomas).
Updating the depth chart with the 2 JUCOS:
Starters:
PG: Moore
SG: Tavarez
G/F: Thomas
PF: DeCady
C: Zorg
Bench:
PG: Lopez
G - Xavier Blake
G - Boyd
G - new JUCO Jefferson
C - Riley Dunn
Another true Forward and hopefully a center that can push Dunn to 3rd string really only glaring needs left.

Looks like a super quick PG who is an assist machine. Went to Bishop Gorman an elite prep school in Las Vegas.

Just a few comments Thomas is a lock to start and get major minutes. Depending on the physical state/condition of Lopez he could very well start over Tavarez and from what we have been told he's a SG not a PG. I don't believe that Riley Dunn will be a third string player from the video that's out there he has a lot of skills and could be on the floor at the same time as Zorg. He's a kid who has dribbling skills and can shoot from beyond the perimeter. I don't think we should sleep on his ability. True video can be deceiving but he looks like a big who has skills that we have never seen here before.

So once again it will be a real dogfight for the guards for playing time.
Speedy's way for the most part seems to be you are in the inner circle or you are not.
Survival of the fittest! Or maybe this is the year he won't bury truly good players on the bench.
I remember George Mason used to have 2 waves of starting fives where they pressed you to death. They were not easy to play against.
Our history is to have one or 2 stud guards that don't leave the floor unless they have foul trouble. let's see how it shakes out this season.
I am ready to start the season today!

About the same size as Preston
Even has the same hair as Preston
Game reminds me a little bit about Preston
All this remains to be seen

Kid looks good. A Speedy hidden gem? The question is, does he get buried on the bench on a Speedy team that uses only 8 or so in the rotation?

Silas did put himself into the portal but Biggie didn't apparently he's not interested in playing any more college ball??

Don't be surprised if you hear about Biggie playing ball in Israel. He has a friend there now that's playing.

If the season began today how many open scholarships would Hofstra have left based on the preseason depth chart listed on this post ???????
