It's always about the haves and have nots. Money being the root of all evil with these BIG SCHOOLS holding the advantage. Not much different in professional sports with the money teams able to buy the best players with some exceptions. That's why every time the tournament rolls around I love to see the Cinderella teams knock off the P5 teams happens every year. Who will be this years ST PETERS??

Our old friend Caleb Burgess is going dancing... his top seeded Unc Asheville just won the big south rallying from down double digits to beat our soon to be new friend Campbell (who went on a run as the 7 seed to get to the title game). Burgess with a familiar line... 1pt, 3 reb, but team high 6 assists including on go ahead 3 with a min to play

He played 36 minutes and only took 3 shots. He's been told not to put it up. He went 1-2 from the FT line. Always a great FT shooter(NOT)!! Playing 23 minutes a game during the season and scoring 5 points.

There likely won't be a P5 in the next couple of years, just a P2 or P3 at the most. The SEC, B10, maybe the Big 12. The ACC and Pac 12 will likely get poached, merged, blown up, etc. The future 'super conferences' will own the biggest programs to own the biggest matchups and therefore the biggest money. And they are already maneuvering to do so.

All the rest are bystanders that will be collateral damage one way or another. And the only thing that matters is football. Going to be a wild ride, especially to see how this all shakes out for hoops focused / hoops only / all mid major schools...

I'm sure he's not making a lateral move here he's looking for greener bigger pastures.

Probably. Was wishful thinking. He did say he loves to play at The Mack.

But here's another possibility:

Started 15 of the 27 games he played averaging over 9 pts. a game playing 23 minutes. Shoots the three at around 37%. He sounds like a guy that would basically be a Bryce Washington type of guy but would he come here for less minutes? No he would come here to probably start or at least get the same minutes. Good size at 6'4. A fundamentally solid player not in the same scoring range as either Aaron or Tyler.

With Patrick Ewing departing Georgetown, I wonder if any players will also leave? Specifically, Brentwood's Jordan Riley, who was Mr. New York Basketball and Newsday Player of the Year in 2021. Riley played only 16 mpg and averaged fewer than 5 ppg for the Hoyas, but is capable of much more.

Riley is a really good player but would he play for a mid major as opposed to a high major P5 program. If he goes into the portal there will be a long line of suitors for his services. It's about time they got rid of Ewing over there what happened to a once proud program is awful.

The portal really shouldn't be open until all postseason play is done. It should be the same across the board for everyone.

Teams can walk and chew gum at the same time, but when you're competing in a postseason tournament it's very difficult to deal with the portal and your future roster at the same time.

Why should Towson be able to get to work now on trying to replace Timberlake with Towson's season done while Hofstra potentially may not know for at least a couple more weeks on whether it has to replace Estrada and/or Thomas should HU make an unlikely run through the NIT?

Waiting three more weeks for all teams to be done with all postseason play, still more than seven months before the start of next season, wouldn't be a a big deal and it would make it the most fair across the board for all teams who need to deal with the portal with either new additions or to know what losses (whether to the portal or guys simply not coming back, turning pro, etc.) they may have to replace for next year.

Big losses for the W. Course HU about to have their own.

Gardner Webb dude is intriguing. Love me some wings. A GT, so wonder if that's just a protection/backup for Dubar or something else...

The CAA, and most mid majors to be fair, are obviously not in a great spot. Talented players simply do not want to wait around their entire career on a hope and prayer they might actually make the dance in a one bid league. It sucks if you have the talent to be there, but your team and/or conference are in the way.

HU really, REALLY, needs to play in the NCAAT (stating it that way as unfortunately the COVID year didn't help much, and the NIT just isn't exciting to most young players today). It is just my opinion, but I believe strongly that Speedy has about 3 years to show he can bring this program to the dance, or his luster and lore will begin to wane. No one will care at some point in the near future about his former accolades. Weber wasn't immune, Ewing wasn't immune, Hardaway not immune, on and on. You need to dance or your former glory won't hold enough weight in living rooms anymore.

He and this staff better go out there and build a team not just to win 20 games but a team that is built to dance this time. And there is a difference between winning regular season games and winning pressure tournaments.

Agree on the timing of the portal - it's all such nonsense and a total free for all because the NCAA is awful. I do believe in this staff to recruit despite that for now... but my point above stands. It won't last forever if this program doesn't get over the hump relatively soon.

Polito, its not so much that players are transferring to go to the Dance, now its more about the money...heard that one of our players left us last year for a P5 school for HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS and did not EVEN START...MONEY TALKS!

Riley is in the portal, he does have a long line of suitors, and Hofstra reportedly is on that list. And looking at the other schools maybe hofstra has a real shot?

Hofstra
San Diego state
Old Dominion
Rhode Island
Bryant
Cal state Bakersfield
South Alabama
Texas Arlington
