I know this is rarely used in basketball, but you could make total points be the tiebreaker. If the teams win by the same margin, the year is tied, and the previous winner keeps it.

KenPom expects us to win 75-65 with an 82 percent chance at winning, and that could change a little by Thursday.

I would possibly do it as a collective competition across all sports each school year. Would be cool, and bring some meaning to the outcomes across all sports. Could weight them in a point system. I mean, again, this really isn't that hard - it's unreal to me that between all the business minds on both sides that nothing has been done so far, and nothing seems to even be in the works on this front.

At any rate, for the game, this is a monster and I hope we are able to put some fans in the seats - I plan to be there. And yes, I want to see HU make a statement here and put on a show on the court. It's time to win, in loud fashion.

Does that mean a Willie bobblehead is being given away on Tuesday, to complete the set?

Speedy should make the team watch the start of Uconn St John's tonight... Hurley got uconn playing with their hair on fire to avenge the loss at MSG. Of course playing in front of 16,000 raucous fans helps. Hope its a good atmosphere Saturday!

Yeh, St. John's got schooled by a better team...will be interesting to see them play again in the Big East tourney...wonder what apologies Roger Rubin and Newsday will have for the Johnnies.

UConn scored 72 points in both SJU games. The first won they lost, 72-81; the second one they won, 72-40. Time for SJU to look for a new coach!

I expected UConn to win the rematch at home but I was absolutely shocked to see what St. John's scored (only 40 pts!) and shot (just 20%!) after scoring 81 pts in their nine-points win over UConn at MSG.

Shows how important playing intense, focused, committed defense is and how teams can inexplicably turn that on and off. Obviously, different matchups can change things even with a good defensive effort, but sometimes the same effort just isn't there with a lot of teams, and that's inexcusable. I said what I did about coaching in another thread with Coen and Northeastern this year, and that it's mainly about the players, but this is where coaching is a big factor - with accountability. No doubt, Hurley made his players accountable before last night with the way they came out and defended.

Sometimes shots fall, sometimes not, but defensive effort, intensity, communication, and commitment to the defensive gameplan should always remain a constant, especially when your offense is struggling.

Lol Newsday gave them a few pages including the entire back page in a 30+ point loss. Disgusting!

I think more than anything UCONN just played with a mindset of this is our conference and if you (St Johns) think you arrived by beating us last time think again. When doubt crept in for St John's UCONN smelled blood and went for the kill. And that's the EXACT mentality Hofstra needs to have Saturday. Instead of looking down at Stony Brook, like Speedy did with his dismissive "this was their Super Bowl" comment after losing at Stony last month, Hofstra needs to come out thinking time to shut Stony Brook up and put them back in their place.

Sure there's some X/O concerns on how Geno Ford is able to trap our guards better than most other teams in the league, and Hofstra has to respect Goods and guard him on the perimeter this time (he had a season high in 3pt makes and attempts vs us), but ultimately this game is more about mindset than anything on the court to me.

I didn't realize Speedy said that at the presser. It's funny being the same age we have similar sports vocab. Still think it's hofstra's fault that Stony Brook gets up extra for this one!

Or maybe because they're simply pretty good (9-6 in the conference and 8-2 in their last 10, were up huge at halftime on UNCW, though they lost, beat Charleston in 20T in the highest-scoring game in CAA history) and because it's Hofstra, their Loong Island rival, who they want to get up for regardless of what Hofstra says or does. Maybe we're reading too much into the "Super Bowl" comment, the t-shirts, the Pride of Long Island motto, or any of those things that we assume Stony Brook is paying close attention to which they may not even really notice or easily shrug off?

Stony Brook's best player and possible CAA 1st-teamer Erik Pratt just got tossed late in Stony's loss to Monmouth tonight for spitting at a fan (nice job by Monmouth camera crew pretty indisputable video). Fan was really jawing at him but Pratt obviously can't do that. I dunno if CAA would suspend him for that but thought worth noting. NFL did suspend DK Metcalf 2 games for spitting at a fan

Stony Brook lost tonight. There's now a three-way tie for fourth place:

SB needs the win for a.chance to move into the top 4 and get a double bye. Hofstra needs the win to help stay in the top 4. It is as simple as that. They don't need any LI Super Bowl hype to make this an important game.

Hofstra is fully aware and focused and Preston said as much when he was interviewed on the last episode of blue and gold. No question in my mind this will be a totally different game then the first one. We will be out to settle the score in this one(won)!

Two games left. Win two, finish third. Win one, finish fourth. Lose both, maybe finish seventh?

The kid should be suspended, it was blatant...and all through the telecast they were talking about him as POY, never a mention of CRUZ or Hofstra for that matter. Guess they forgot that we beat them twice!

Whatever the reason (they weren't good last year, but neither was hofstra), they better not be surprised by Stony Brook coming out with intensity from the start like they have been the last few meetings.

What an ugly game for Stony Brook last night. They got it within 5 and then completely lost control again. Credit to Monmouth.

This puts the Seawolves at a must-win situation tomorrow for any hopes of a Double bye. Hofstra looking solidly in the top 4 right now.

Huge game nonetheless for both.

So who's getting the CUP started?

Last year is apples and oranges. They were an entirely different team with different key players than this year. And although Hofstra has some key holdovers, they're very different too.

Even with Pratt (their leading scorer), Stony Brook is very different this year at home (12-3, 6-2 CAA) vs. away (4-8, 3-5 CAA), so I expect a different kind of game than the loss we saw at Stony Brook as long as Hofstra defends seriously. I'm looking for Hofstra in this one to get to 17-1 while allowing under 70 pts this season. Even more so if Pratt is suspended and won't play tomorrow night.
