Boy, this is a tough crowd. Fire a winning coach after one bad year?
I think we are frustrated that with the talent we’ve had we haven’t been able to get to the dance. Pair that with a year when we have no talent and do poorly, fans get very upset.
I’m also one that thinks the coaching is/was to blame for those years when we had the talent and were expected to get to the dance and never did

They want guys that win and have gotten to the dance. Speedy hasn’t done that. They’ll get a proven winner.

Like has been said here Speedy is not going anywhere nor should he be. He's the face of this program whether you like or don't like his coaching. He will continue to draw kids here based on his pedigree .

Speedy is lucky he's not being judged by the Iona administration. Tobin Anderson just got fired after their run to the MAAC title game 2 days ago and all of 2 yrs at the school. The schools statement specifically mentions them changing their "entire business model and program structure" due to NIL. Crazy

Wow, two years to the day that FDU shocked Purdue, too! Shocker.
Iona's statement:
https://x.com/jeffborzello/status/1901651751507525925
Iona is eyeing Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Dan Geriot as its new head coach.
Dan Geriot’s father is apparently wealthy and can add some NIL money to the program.
So now we're firing good coaches and giving undeserved head coaching jobs based on money. Great for the sport.
Not that boosters haven't guided decisions before but this feels more direct, like the choice was made for Iona rather than I think what's usually done - one school choice over another backed by a booster.

Report that Siddle is gonna get a long term extension from UNCW. Great for the conference, terrible for our chances of ever winning it again. Lol
Really surprised he hasn't generated more high-major buzz, or even VCU level buzz

Are you comparing to VCU now or the VCU that went to the Final Four in 2011? If the latter, that's a huge difference. Siddle hasn't even won an NCAAT game yet and only made the NCAAT for the first time this year. He already signed a five-year deal through 2027-28 in April, 2023, so I guess they're reworking that for even longer.
Speaking of VCU, Ryan Odum is leaving for Virginia. Imagine someone telling Ryan Odum back in February, 2018: "Next month, you and UMBC will be the first 16 seed to beat a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. You'll not only shock Virginia in that game, but you'll beat them by 20. A year later, Virginia will win the national championship but six years after that, after a brief stops at Utah State and VCU, Virginia will hire you as their head coach."

Spoke today with the father of Isaiah Mucius (local kid who played at Wake Forest, 2018-22, and who is now playing professionally in Hungary) - he knows Edmead well, knows Edmead's Dad and other players and parents, etc. that they played with. Isaiah played in Massachusetts before college like Edmead.
Isaiah's Dad said Edmead is good - quick, crafty, could probably step in as a PG right away, setting up others and scoring 7-8 ppg himself as a freshman. He said Edmead is small (height-wise and also needs to put on some weight and get stronger), but said he should do well at Hofstra.

With Colin Curtain leaving HU Basketball for LaSalle, will HU basketball add a General Manager position? Iona has just added the position along with their new head coach. Maybe this is the new organization of a basketball coaching staff in the NIL era.

Don't we already have a position called Director of basketball operations isn't that the same as a general manager?

It doesn't sound like there are GM/NIL-related type of roles here:

Sorry to see Colin leave but it sounds like a good opportunity for him. A real standup guy who was never afraid to talk to fans and alumni and speak his mind. He will be missed.

It will become more and more common now that players are getting paid. It'll be the same as GM's for pro teams. Schools are also tapping people with GM experience now - St. Bonaventure with Wojnarowski (not that he had prior GM experience, but that was a big one), Iona (although they are only able to afford that because of wealthy father of their new head coach coming from the Cleveland Cavs), and Utah with a former Sacramento Kings assistant GM becoming their program's GM.
But like paying players NIL money, only the schools that can afford will be able to hire a pro-like GM to run that. And if you can't afford to do either or both, you may get left behind in the race to lure the best players you can land.

Yeah, a good guy. And a Philly guy, and Mihalich is a Special Assistant to the Head Coach, so it makes perfect sense for him return home.

No Stu, the DOBO is basically a fifth coach with (possibly) some recruiting restrictions. A GM would be more of a front office person dealing with NIL the portal, etc

Good luck to Colin. LaSalle has a new head coach:

Would love to see us to add a really strong recruiter to our staff. Or maybe bring Serge Clement back from GMU?
