Another gutty win for this team. Got some help with no foul call in box and moments later drew red card, bur good teams find ways to win and take advantage of breaks. Elon will be tough but this team certainly is battle tested!

https://gohofstra.com/news/2022/11/6/me ... inals.aspx is titled "Goldthorp's Second Half Goal Sends Hofstra Back To CAA Finals."

https://caasports.com/news/2022/11/6/el ... final.aspx is titled "Elon, Hofstra Record One-Goal Wins to Advance to CAA Men's Soccer Championship Final." In their 1-0 Semifinal win, Elon got their 11th shutout to tie for the most in Division I. It is the first time that consecutive Finals had the same teams since we beat Old Dominion in 2004 and 2005.

https://gohofstra.com/boxscore.aspx?path=msoc&id=12040 is the box score.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPd2scCtnMo is highlights by Hofstra.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu8oRCNMn-w is highlights by the CAA.

The Final is at Elon on Saturday at 12:00 P.M. http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=436447 will have statistics.

We lead 1-0 at halftime. https://www.flofc.com/live/44085 has video if you pay for Flo. Oliver Svalander scored and played 18 minutes. We had better statistics with shots being 6 to 1, and shots on goal being 2 to 0. An announcer said Wessel Speel is tall. During halftime, they showed video of Daniel Lovitz, who graduated from Elon in 2013. He played 204 games in Major League Soccer (MLS), and in 2019 he played 13 games for the United State National Team.

Edit: We won. With 4:58 left, Francesco Perinelli scored to go up 2-0. Elon scored with 12 seconds left. We had more shots 13 to 8, and more shots on goal 4 to 3. I wonder how many times we won a conference tournament in Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer in consecutive seasons. Through Sunday, Elon was 24th in the RPI, and we were 32nd. We will see if that is good enough to get a First Round home game. The NCAA Tournament has 48 teams, and the Selection Show is online on Monday at 1:00 P.M.

Back to back! So happy for Richard and the players to once again raise that trophy and get another chance to experience NCAAs. We were 32 in RPI coming into game and Elon was 24 so we should most definitely be getting a first round home game. The field will be announced Monday at 1 on ncaasports.com

Once again our soccer teams prove their superiority in the CAA. Kudos to the coaches and all the players.

When is the selection show? Do we think the CAA will be a two bid league?

1:00 on NCAA.com

During yesterday's CAA telecast, the announcers kept saying they thought the loser would also get a bid. (not exactly impartial :D )

We go to South Florida. If we win, we go to Number 1 Kentucky. 16 teams are seeded from 1 to 16. There are not the same numbers in different regions. The NCAA has not updated the RPI. We were 32nd after November 6. South Florida was 38th. After that, they won, and then lost the American Athletic Final to Florida International (FIU), who was 17th in the RPI. The SEC does not exist in Men's Soccer, so Kentucky plays in the Sun Belt. They are the only undefeated team, and had their first undefeated regular season.

Elon not only received a bid, they have a home game. I don't know the relative RPIs of Hofstra and Elon, but I for one think we again got jobbed.

Just checked, the current NCAA RPIs through games of 11-13: Hofstra #25, USF #34, and Elon #29. This really does not make sense unless there is some accounting of possible travel, weather concerns, or attendance numbers. How does the NCAA justify these selections? Where is the CAA in advocating for the members of the conference, especially the current conference champion? Doesn't HU's strong run in the 2021 NCAA soccer tournament mean anything?

Probably not as much as winning the regular season title. They often do the same with basketball. Committees like to reward regular season conference champions over a team that gets hot for a few days in the conference tourney.

Remember last year where we were snubbed a home game and went to Penn State what was the final score then oh yes it was Hofstra eight Penn State two maybe Richard could use this as motivation for this team to put a hurting on USF

Such a BS draw on a number of levels, but sadly have gotten used to it with Hofstra in multiple sports. South Florida head coach on the committee as well. This is almost as bad as when Hofstra softball in 2015 off a CAA title was 13th in RPI and got sent to same bracket as top-seeded Florida.

Stu, we actually did get a home game last year, beating Lipscomb; Penn State was our 2nd game.
But it does seem we get screwed every year in one sport or another.

Agree CTDUTCH. How can they reward the loser with a home game and send us on the road...is the Elon AD on the selection committee? This stinks especially after the run we had last year. You would think they would give us more respect.
