Re: Women's basketball 2023-24
I said all along that SBU women’s team was not as good as their record. They had a record that was similar to Fairfield University. I believe is now 30 wins, and one loss and ranked number 25 in the country SBU women’s team did not have a particularly daunting schedule. That’s why they never came close to receiving votes in the top 25 this team as good as their record is, did not approach the teams that Delaware and JMU had in seasons past
No NCAA tournament for them and while they will be picked for the NIT I don’t expect them to have a great seed

Rather than start another thread Drexel representing the CAA will play 1 seed Texas as the 16 seed
That shows how weak the CAA is. Maine from the AE got a 14 seed
If SBU won I think they would have been seeded no higher than 14

Re: Women's basketball 2023-24
actually they are in the WBIT which is a higher ranking tournament than the WNIT
They play the number one ranked team JMU
Which translates to the 100 th team selected overall

The WNIT has been downgraded to a third rate tournament, selecting the next 48 teams eligible

that was before they lost to Drexel
Re: Women's basketball 2023-24
NC A&T got an invite as well. CAA sent 3 to the WNIT and 1 to the WBITstuball888 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 10:45 pm The WNIT has been downgraded to a third rate tournament, selecting the next 48 teams eligible

Re: Women's basketball 2023-24
SBU has a 72 NET (dropped 4 spots after losing to Drexel from 68) and JMU is 105. Guessing rankings for WBIT has to do with a bidding process as well as who has large draws, otherwise makes no sense for JMU to be a 1 seed. They were nowhere near making the NCAATtriplec2195 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 10:30 amSBU's NET was in the low 70's I believe just sayin.stuball888 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 10:44 pm actually they are in the WBIT which is a higher ranking tournament than the WNIT

Re: Women's basketball 2023-24
This just is not fully correct. Maine is a 15 not a 14, thought they were probably teetering the 14/15 line. CAA got a 16 because we sent our 7 seed dancing with a NET of 162. AEast sent their best team who had a NET of 112. Anyone outside of Stony Brook would have been a 16 though.stuball888 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:37 pm That shows how weak the CAA is. AEast had Maine- 112 and then Vermont- 141 and Albany- 161 and everyone else worse than 230.
CAA had SBU at 72, then NC A&T- 145, Charleston- 148, Monmouth- 157, Drexel- 162 in the same realm. Then had Towson, W&M, Delaware and Campbell in the top 200 yet. CAA was still far superior to the AEast.
Only 5 teams in the tournament had worse NET's, 4 are in the play-in games and the other is the other 16 seed.
Stony Brook would have been a 13 ahead of Portland and Irvine.
Fairfield had a net of just 89, Portland was 104, Marshall was 73 and UC Irvine 123
15's were Norfolk State- 122; Maine- 112, Kent State- 113, Cal Baptist- 120
14s were Chattanooga- 103, Jackson State- 100, Eastern Washington- 77, Rice- 102
12's were FGCU- 54, Drake- 65, South Dakota State- 55, the 12 play ins were Vandy- 56 and Columbia- 57
Green Bay was the lowest 11- 50 and MTSU was 39 (the 2 play-ins, Auburn was 45 and Arizona was 35). Green bay would have been a 12 but got seeded up for the at large play-ins

Ashley Langford is leaving Stony Brook to coach at Tulane
Do while SBU looks for a new coach what is our administration doing
looks like we are giving our coach another year

Looks like Ja’miyah Bryant is transferring Grambling State and Custis is in the portal.

Also see that if it's accurate we lost Tionna Baker, Onna Brown, Kaylee Joseph-Bernard and Selma Markisic GRAD STUDENT. We picked up Kassidy Thompson who transfers in from Quinnipiac and will be a sophomore. She's a 5'10 shooting guard from NJ with a nice HS resume. https://gobobcats.com/sports/womens-bas ... pson/12758
Re: Women's basketball 2023-24
hmm.. i thought Baker would be a good defensive stopper next year. I was excited to see what Brown could do as well with more playing time too. Hopefully Coach Santos-Atkinson is being active in the portal - nice to see one commitment. Plenty of opportunity and minutes available.
Assume we will still have Swint, Von Essen and Knights to start next year unless there is more movement. Gooden earned more time with her play late in the year as well.

Re: Women's basketball 2023-24
We bring back important players on this team especially if Swint stays.I don't know the status of Ally Knights who I thought did graduate?? I believe with her play at the end of the season Gooden will now start with Swint, Emma and Knights like you said Pride if she comes back as a graduate student.Micaela Carter who got plenty of playing time will come back with a years experience. We also bring in two freshmen from N Carolina in 5'8 Maddie Pounds and 6'3 Michaela Hodge. https://gohofstra.com/news/2023/11/9/wo ... ntent.aspx
We need to find a Brandy Thomas type player out there because we are desperate for offense. I thought Onna Brown would help us there but now she's gone.
