this article highlights my steadfast thought that this team needed another guard for THIS yr - JM specifically mentions how much they'll miss Nesmith and will have to fill his role by committee to spell Green, who should NOT be in that role

The minutes are there, and there should've been a guy brought in

They WILL play and rely at times on a true frosh - and he even mentions Koon as someone who may be called upon to help with that...uh HUH?? Whoa boy lol - this ain't Kentucky, and that dude isn't a 1st rounder - those are the only 6'8 guys who can run the point in D1

Alas, just want to call that out to those who keep thinking that wasn't a need - it was - and it is.

My hope is Buie *IS* a future 1st rounder, because this team will need him this year

Agree Polito - If it turns out that Buie has a great freshman year and we have no injuries, then we should be OK. If not, then the concern you and I have expessed numerous times will come to pass.

In any case, looking forward to a great season with lots of talent on the floor.

Newsday was at MBB practice. There's a photo album linked in the article, it has pictures of JWF and Buie.

What reasons do they give for picking Hofstra? We weren't that good last year.

Agree...there is a lot of room for improvement from last year...we should have done better last season

True, and I def agree last season should've been better

But remember, this is now an experienced group, senior led, with talent and depth - team returns the bulk of its scoring, added some size, and is part of a generally weaker conf - this kind of team will be expected to make a significant jump in performance - it's like that with almost every team that has talented Sr leadership

All things condidered, HU *should* be that kind of team this year - again, BIG expectations and there are no excuses this yr - time to go and get it DONE

I'm also hoping that they now realize they need to bring the same defensive intensity that they had in the CAA tournament (despite the lapse on the last play) every night.

In the nation 3 of the 5 first teamers are from local schools, Hofstra, Iona and SBU. Guess basketball is back on the local level. More for the need of a local tournament to showcase these talented players.

College Sports Madness usually has to be taken with a grain of salt, although they're seeming getting better and more credible lately. Anyway, they're predicting a Hofstra sweep for conference player of the year. For the women, they have Ashunae Durant as the pre-season POY. (although this would be awesome, I think it's unlikely. She's a really, really good player (ESPN ranked in the top 100 of her recruiting class, CAA rookie of the year, all-met rookie of the year, and the national mid-major rookie of the year), but I still think the award will end up going to a JMU player. But maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised in March. They also have her on the all-CAA first team, and the national high-major (even though the CAA is a mid-major) all-american 3rd team.

For the men, they have Juan'ya Green as the preseason player of the year, and both Green and Tanksley on the all-CAA first team. They also have Green on the national high-major all-american 3rd team.

HU sports marketing folks have a LOT to work with this yr, esp for the mens team - they should be BLITZING whatever media and advertising outlets they can to build the interest/momentum and fans support in the seats - there's really no excuse for them to drop the ball on this season considering the potential

Also, I don't expect him to be on any preseason list due to limited play last yr, BUT I am very hopeful that Rokas will be an all-conf player for the rest of his HU career - really high on his ability and potential

CBS Sports lists us as the #96 team in the nation and winners of the CAA. Behind us are such notable local schools as Stony Brook, #108, and St. John's #110 with William & Mary as the nearest CAA competitor #118.

This is a fun way to spread the hype for the team. Coach Mihalich will be delivering coffee to 3 people on Monday through a Twitter contest.

Hofstra is 22nd in the mid-major preseason poll. CAA teams receiving votes are JMU, Northeastern, UNCW and W&M, in that order. People love Iona, they're selected 6th.

ESPN published their College Basketball top 100 players, but no mention of Juan'ya. Lee is on the list, unsurprisingly.
