Stu, if we played SBU's schedule we would have the streak. Never has Newsday done anything to cite the weakness of the AE vs the CAA. It does not suit their agenda which obviously is to promote the school out East.

They are accentuating the positive. If Hofstra were in the AE would newsday say its only because its a weak conference, no When we were in the AE we got very good coverage from newsday. Trust me most readers of Newday are not avid fans like we are. They just look at the record and assume SBU is that good. We should not be so sensitive about the coverage SBU is getting. That was us back in the 1990s.

Let's be careful not to hijack our own thread lol

SBU is a good team, they're beating the teams on their schedule, and Warney is truly a great player - has worked his butt off, and seems to be a class young man as well - kudos to SBU on a great yr so far - they still have to finish the job, just like HU, but I have no issue giving props where it's due

UNCW has become a good team, on what I would consider to be not necessarily super talent - I think they are well-coached, play good D, and use an overall strategy suited to the players they have - they're having a much better season than expected, winning in a tough conf, so kudos to them as well

But the fact remains, EVERYONE still has to finish the job, and the reality is, yes, anything can happen for all

Newsday is... newsday. There's good and bad. But trust me, when HU wins the CAA and lands in the dance, they will cover. When HU knocks off a major in the NCAAT, they will cover. When HU becomes a Sweet 16 Cinderella, they will cover. I don't care if they even want to, they'll have no choice. Again, the beauty of the tri-state media market, it forces coverage when you're good enough to not be ignored by anyone. 8-)

Now, bringing this back to topic:

Green and Gustys are really special players, and they're working their tails off - these 2 especially would be fantastic to see on a national stage - would be great for them to have that opportunity, see what they can do in that spot - could boost Green's pro chances, and RG could bring a lot of attention to HU next yr

Just gotta earn it!

LOL! Yeah, I thought this was about Rok, after all.

Did anyone see who wrote the article in today's Newsday on Stony Brook's win yesterday? Steven Marcus, a an SBU alum. Some of you have known this for years. So I'm really not sure why the coverage geared toward SBU today surprises anyone here.

If Hofstra does its job, there will be plenty of Newsday and other coverage for them. Speaking of which...

We have seen what this team is capable of at its best, when it's focused (90-58 at Towson, closing 45-15 against W&M, up 20 on the team occupying first place with a 12-2 CAA record right now). When playing at that level, it has the makeup to do damage in the NCAAT, with Rok inside and Green at the point, and the 3-point shooters, when their on. Really hope they can get there because depending on the draw, they might have the type of ingredients it takes to pull an upset. They'd have to outscore someone to do it though, because their defense would get them in trouble in the NCAAT.

ProudofPride wrote: They deserved attention for beating us, I'll give them that. But winning 18 in a row by beating up on America East teams is nothing to write home about. It's one of the weakest conferences in the country.
The America East isn't good, but at 23rd out of 32 in the Conference RPI, that's too good to be "one of the weakest conferences in the country" unless you include 10 conferences. The America East is doing better than usual. Over the last five complete seasons, it has an average Conference RPI rank of 27.2 and a best rank of 23rd. When it was 23rd in 2012-2013, it had a value .0001 worse than it has now, so it's essentially tied with its best season out of the previous five.

When I mentioned that Newsday listed the longest active winning streaks, I wasn't trying to complain that Newsday should give UNCW more attention. I wonder if UNCW had ever been mentioned in Newsday before that other than a game against Hofstra or a postseason game.

Good stuff Evan.

Jon Rothstein had a little bit to say about RG this morning, under the "This and That" category at the end of the article. I laughed at his Stony Brook comments that are right after the RG stuff.

Actually he was spot on about SBU. They need to get that 800 gorilla off its back and win the AE tournament. And yes, RG is putting up ridiculous numbers.

He is literally bringing national attention to the program - to have a guy like that PLUS a guy like Green, who brought it previously, is really something at this level

AND, even better, IMO he's the kind of guy fans can and will get behind - he's a 4 yr guy, 'growing up' in this program, he's a big who can add a dunk and block for some excitement, and is really an unstoppable force - that has fan favorite written all over him

IF this school has any marketing intelligence, they will utilize this all the way through his graduation

Rokas bubble-head night anyone????

The nation's longest winning streak no longer belongs to SBU, which lost, 82-70, in Albany tonight.

The nation's longest streak is now 12, and it belongs to Yale. which is seeking its first NCAAT berth in 54 years.

Now back to more talk about Rok...

Go, Albany! The Great Danes stole the NCAA bid from the Seawolves last year. The battle for AE supremacy continues!

Albany sending word they are still the team SBU has to overcome to win it all - split the series - have to hand it to them, they've put together a nice mid program there - for as much attention as SBU gets, Albany has developed into a pretty consistent group in that conf - certainly not a power, but def respectable

that tourney is going to be a battle, and prob a fun one to keep an eye on - an SBU/UA champ game would be fantastic - I'm still going with SBU finally getting over the hump in JW and CP final years - this game will prob help fuel them for it - but we'll see...

But regardless of all that, RG is still a beast!!!
