Next Year's Team
Re: Next Year's Team
Truth is, we don't yet know what we have. Does anyone see our next JWF, Estrada or Thomas on the roster? We might be a team that has two or three moderate scorers (10-12 ppg) instead of one lead dog (20+ ppg). I'll also be interested to see how our frontcourt talent develops.

Re: Next Year's Team
We certainly could be more versatile with a lot of players that have scoring potential so our opponents can't just look to shut one player down. The continued development of Sunday will be extremely important IMO also.
Re: Next Year's Team
That can work and it would be nice to see more of a team rather than relying on being so top-heavy for a change.Jojogunne wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 11:24 am Truth is, we don't yet know what we have. Charleston's top scorers this past season:
12.8
12.1
11.9
9.7
9.5
8.3
Re: Next Year's Team
Hearing it's another NY kid, a PG, who was on the all-freshman team in his conference, who will round out the roster.
Looks like Speedy's plan is to go after transfers from NY who want to play near home then have the opportunity to follow an Estrada path.

Re: Next Year's Team
We are still shallow in depth with the bigs
I dont know if the Elon transfer can be the shot blocker we need in the paint
Hopefully Sunday has worked hard on his overall game and can take some strides this coming year
Also let not talk about overall depth of the team
Every year we say the team is deep only to be disappointed as the team deals with injuries and performance issues of new player who dont perform up to expectations

Re: Next Year's Team
Cactus that looks like the plan, plus pick up a couple of freshman here and there...wonder waht the returning guards think about all the kids coming in?
Re: Next Year's Team
South Florida's Jayden Reid from Westbury and LI Lutheran fits the bill. He made the AAC's All-Freshman Team:

I believe we tried recruiting him in high school.
Looks like Speedy may be going after the best player available rather than settling for a lesser player at a position of need.
Re: Next Year's Team
This sounds a lot like Moe Odum, who is supposedly on campus today... Keep an eye out for Speedy to make it official.

Re: Next Year's Team
Odum would be a nice get, him and Cruz Davis makes for an intriguing young backcourt with some real upside to actually grow together. And definitely seems Speedy is targeting kids that can grow here, not quick 1 year grad fixes that are more established players.
That being said, Pacific did go 0-16 in conference last yr and finished as the 5th worst team in the entire country on kenpom (worse than Hampton, nc a&t, buffalo). LMU, graham's school, went 5-11 in that league (and he was at elon before that). St Francis (lopez) was 3-13 in the NEC. And Canisius (Gadsden) was 3rd worst team in the MAAC.
Now I'm not all suggesting that these kids are in any way at fault for why their previous teams were all terrible, but is anyone at all concerned that we're not bringing in anyone from winning programs?
We're not just going to be young next year, we're going to have almost no players that have ever consistently won at the college level
Re: Next Year's Team
Minor point: Odum did not make the WCC All-Freshman Team.

It's a good clue! He just made all freshman in '22-'23 not this past season
Re: Next Year's Team
OK put the clue back in! What I heard better be correct after all this

Re: Next Year's Team
Hearing that we are looking to add a true point guard with the last scholarship...I guess Odum fits the bill.

Thanks, HUSID! I see 13 names. Has Pratt committed?

Re: Next Year's Team
So, either Odum or Pratt.
Does that mean that Graham is the other center (with Silas). At 6'8", is this going to be another Boachie Yiodum type player? Don't know anything about Graham. In todays world of average centers at 6'10" and above, are we good or am I missing something?

Re: Next Year's Team
Graham in his sophomore year playing 21 minutes a game had 41 blocks in 32 games. I've read he's a high riser and will be a shot blocker. In comparison Taylor had 68 playing 26 minutes a game in 35 games.
