Re: Next Year's Team
Love this! Verbal commits lists him as a PG, but think he profiles as more of a scorer than say Carlos did. Either way would expect him to start right away and be an impact player. Anyone know what his injury was this past season?
Now maybe bring Traore over next? Can close in on building a starting 5 entirely of former Pitino guys

Re: Next Year's Team
This timeline is interesting. Early on, Davis, a Texan, had offers from Houston, Oregon State and TCU. He committed to and decommitted from OSU to go to Iona, presumably attracted by the allure of playing for Pitino:

Davis great signing1 We also signed Jean Aranguren. Played 1 year at Iona averaged 8 pts ans shot 40% from 3 as a freshman...GOOD get IMO!
Re: Next Year's Team
Re injury - he broke his hand very early last season. I think he will have 3 years left.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 3:36 pmLove this! Agree HUSID - I think Aranguren is also a good commit. Watching the below video left me thinking that this kids game is much like Tyler during his junior season. Nice 3pt and midrange game (including the 15 ft fall away). His stats indicate some high efficiency scoring. Nice get!
Should have 3 years left!

Great so hopefully shouldn't be any sort of chronic injury concern then. So NOT AT ALL saying Cruz Davis is going to be anything like Estrada, but thought it would be interesting to compare both guys freshman year stats in the MAAC:
Estrada (19.4 min/g; 14 starts): 8.1 ppg, 2.5 reb, 1.9 ast, 0.7 steals, 2 turnovers (40.5% FG, 34% 3pt, 87.9% FT)
Davis (18.9 min/g; 7 starts): 6.5 ppg, 1.4 reb, 1 ast, 0.7 steals, 1.1 turnovers (41.9& FG, 31% 3pt, 76.3% FT)
Estrada better pretty much across the board, but Cruz in the ballpark. And a very intriguing recruiting history. Here's to speedy working his magic with this kid!
Re: Next Year's Team
OK, so we've harvested the low-hanging fruit. Now we need two or three athletic big men who can score. They will be harder to sign.

Khalil Farmer
Eric Parnell
German Plotnikov
KJ Robinson

Re: Next Year's Team
Nice gets for Speedy and co. as we start to solidify our backcourt. I wonder the last time we had a transfer from St John's? Could it have been the former coach of Iona Tim Cluess??
Re: Next Year's Team
Looks like we'll have some decent size! Now need them to jell
Re: Next Year's Team
He shoots a very heavy ball. Think the couple of highlights starting at 2:13 of the video were a mistakeCards wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 7:40 pm Agree HUSID - I think Aranguren is also a good commit. Re: Next Year's Team
Davis is also a lefty does have a smooth game like Aaron when you look at his highlights. We don't get that many 4 star recruits so this a strong get for us.

Yes, it was posted on all of Hofstra's social media channels.SSN_Hofstra wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 9:51 amIs this confirmed? Haven’t seen any news about this anywhere else

The kid confirmed it himself today...

But Husid80 you absolutely beat the school, verbal commits, and all the cbb insiders by a good couple days on this one! Should call Jon rothstein and make him give you credit for the scoop!
Re: Next Year's Team
What I think we all will like about Arunguren's game is he gets to the rim. We really did not have that this year. Seems like he also has a mid range game as well. If Cruz Davis is healthy, we should be real good at the guard spot. Thank you Iona for both!
Re: Next Year's Team
My mistake by putting it out there so early...did not realize there was no official announcement yet.dutchPride86 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 4:27 pm
