The fact that we have two games in hand right now Stu puts us in the drivers seat but things have a way of changing.

How much does seeding really matter in this tournament? It used to matter when the #1 seed would host, but now that it’s at JMU, they’re not playing for hosting rights.

They would be playing for next years right to host. That is until the CAA decides on a three year site

Triple do not underestimate JMU they are a very dangerous team. Also Towson is playing much better and can steal one from us on the road

Hofstra is tenth in winning percentage and is the only mid-major in the Top 10.
HofstraMathew wrote: From the standings a sweep would clinch the top seed; is that reasonable? Seems like whoever wins the series though will have the inside track for the top seed.
Winning 2 out of 4 would give us a 3 game lead with 3 games left and clinch the 1 seed if the tiebreaker is head-to-head.

JMU doesn't field well. Their fielding percentage is in the bottom half at 169th of 296. 45 of their 105 runs allowed (exactly 3/7ths, which is 42.9%) are unearned, which is the highest unearned run percentage of the 296 teams. Hofstra is 16th in fielding percentage, and exactly 17.5% of their runs allowed are unearned.

Evan look at conference only stats they are even with us. They had problems at the beginning of the year and have straightened it out

Winning 2 out of 3 would go a long way to locking up an at-large, if it comes to that.

There is also a first round bye, essentially, for coming in first. You play the winner of the 4-5 game, who will have already played that morning. Not the biggest deal, but much easier to go through the middle of the league than Towson in the first round.

The CAA doesn't have Conference only statistics.

Here are how many times each team has been in the final two of the 16 CAA Tournaments since Hofstra joined:

Hofstra: 13
James Madison: 7
Towson: 6 (without winning any)
Georgia State: 5
Delaware: 1 (in 2004)

The last 5 CAA Tournaments have had two of Hofstra, James Madison, and Towson in the final two. In the last 11 Finals, the losing team has scored 5 runs combined without more than 1 in any game.

One thing you will notice about the defense, however, is that JMU has given up only 16 earned runs, but 34 total runs in conference play. Hofstra has only given up 24 total, and only 19 earned runs. Which while ERA is a good number to use, that means that the pitchers aren't bailing out the fielders from tough situations, or the fielders aren't bailing out the pitchers from tough situations, for JMU. More unearned runs than earned runs is never a good number. This numbers are 109/62 for JMU and 80/67 for Hofstra.

My take is that maybe their pitchers get rattled after they commit errors One of the strengths of Hofstra’s offense is that they take advantage of other teams miscues

Struggling against Stony Brook right now. Down 2-1 in the 5th, and they’ve chased Cornell out of the game. Only 3 hits so far. If we don’t find some offense, might as well say goodbye to that ranking. Gotta show up in games like this.

Right on queue. Clutch 3 run HR with 2 outs in the top of the 6th for Courtney Scarpato! Long Island’s real team now up 4-2.

I used the link called "2018 CAA SOFTBALL STATS" at https://static.caasports.com/custompage ... nfstat.htm which doesn't have that. The Conference only stats are only there if you use the link called "2018 INTERACTIVE CAA SOFTBALL STATS." For Men's and Women's Basketball, the Conference only stats are available without going to the Interactive section. If your post on Monday at 6:45 P.M. was saying that James Madison's defense has gotten better in CAA games, I used the game-by-game stats because the Conference only stats exclude recent midweek games. They have played 44 games, so I broke their games into four quarters of 11. They made 18, 12, 13, and 11 errors. Their last three quarters have had about the same amount of errors.

Looking at conference only stats, Hofstra has a slight edge, .966 to .961. And realistically, the Hof ladies are ahead in every category defensively.

I definitely expect some close games this weekend. Love to take all three.

It's at https://www.newsday.com/sports/college/ ... 1.18276831 but not in the print Newsday I have. No offense to lacrosse fans, but I wish the Hofstra sport Newsday wrote the most about now was the one we are ranked in.

http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=202969 will have statistics for today's first game and http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=202970 will have statistics for the second game.
