MBB Game 19 @Drexel Jan 20 (Mon) 3 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

Martin Luther King Jr. Day has become a federal "basketball" holiday, with many professional and collegiate games played during the day as well as at night.

On Monday we will take on Drexel (10-8, 2-3) in Phialdelphia. The Dragons have defeated NC A&T and Stony Brook, but have lost to Campbell, Towson and Elon.

Our game starts at 3 pm on the CBS Sports Network.

Would've been nice to keep the lead at Towson tonight, then this once would've kind of been a house money game. Instead, it's sort of a must-win. Just like it was a big difference beating UNCW and getting to 2-2 instead of starting 1-3, you really don't want to end the first third of CAA play just 2-4, so getting back to .500 again is big. Have to find a way to gut this one out as Drexel (also at 2-3) is in the same position and probably likewise sees it as an early must-win, so this should be a battle. Whatever is going on with Sanders, they need him right and playing regular minutes again, and contributing something. Yes, even before these past four games, he was inconsistent. But unless someone else suddenly steps up big, Sanders either not playing at all or very close to that (like the past four games) is not sustainable for them.

This is one of three games on CBS Sports Network that day. Will one team stay unbeaten and can another get its first win in CAA play?
William & Mary (trying for 6-0) at UNCW at 1 pm. An interesting one as a good appetizer for Hofstra-Drexel.
NC A&T (0-6) hosting Hampton at 9 pm.

I think we all know the drill by this point for this squad. Limit turnovers, 2nd chance pts, and fouls, defend the 3pt line, dont fall asleep at the end of the 1st half, plus hope either Jean or Cruz is really on and one goes for 20+ pts. Simple right? Lol

Do all those things and they should win today and play with every team in the league. Don't, and they can easily lose to anyone.

UNCW leads W&M 60-47. W&M is the only undefeated, and if they lose, they will be in a three-way tie for first with Charleston and Towson. There is so much time left that the beginning of our game will probably be only shown online with CBS Sports Network showing us after that game ends. I hope that UNCW and W&M don't spend a long time on fouls and timeouts in a game that is not close. UNCW's Bo Montgomery, who averages 6.9 points, leads all players with 17. It is his second start of the season.

https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=545455 will hopefully have statistics. It says "Stats were not received from this event on its scheduled date." That is not what it normally says before a game, and the fact that it has not started displaying rosters and a statistics comparison 25 minutes before the game is supposed to start is worrisome. Hopefully they do not have technical difficulties.

Edit: It is start time, and the statistics did not start. W&M at UNCW has 5:05 left. CBS Sports Network says our game will start at 3:10 P.M., but the previous game could end after that. Trailing team W&M still has three timeouts. UNCW leads 73-64 at the media timeout with 3:56 left. W&M has made 12 threes, and UNCW made 4 threes.

Edit: Our game will start at https://www.cbssports.com/video/livestream/

The statistics still have not started, so you can get the box score from https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... /401714218 and we are up 16-7. I thought we were struggling offeensively when we trailed 5-1 including Aranguren making 1 of 2 free throws and Davis missing 2 free throws, and we responded with a 15-2 run. Drexel has committed 4 fouls.

UNCW defeated W&M 85-74. UNCW's Bo Montgomery (24), UNCW's Donovan Newby (18), and W&M's Gabe Dorsey (18) were the leading scorers. W&M committed 26 fouls, and UNCW made 25 of 32 free throws. UNCW had 10 more rebounds.

Hofstra (which started 11/14 from the floor) was shooting about twice as well as Drexel but the Dragons attempted almost twice as many shots.

We lead 37-26 at halftime, and our offense slowed down late in the half. Aranguren and Davis lead all scorers with 7. Aranguren, Davis, and Gadsden have 3 assists, and Gadsden entered averaging 0.5 assists, and his only previous game with at least 3 was the second game. Plotnikov and Sunday scored 6. Sunday did not miss, but he committed 2 fouls. Farmer scored 4, and he and Sunday combined to make the bench shoot 5-5. The other bench player we used was Robinson, and all of his statistics were zeroes. I do not know how many minutes he played because ESPN does not say that. Graham and Aranguren tied for our lead with 4 rebounds. Kobe MaGee led Drexel with 6, but that is under half of his average of 15.3, and he did not do much else. Jason Drake scored 5, and led Drexel with 2 assists. Drexel's bench shot 1-8. ESPN says Drexel shot 10-28, but the players add up to 27 attempts. Drexel committed 7 turnovers, including two shot clock violations late in the half. Drexel committed 4 fouls in the first 7:22, and 2 fouls in the last 12:38.

Hofstra looked very loose during the pre-game shoot around. They were showing good teamwork and enjoying themselves, and it has carried over to the game. Drexel is just too tight.

Hofstra has fixed the first half woes since W&M and Northeastern. Can they close out a game now?

Shooting just 4/18 since starting 11/14 (closed the first half 2/10, started the second half 2/8). Lead down to 42-39.

I just don’t understand it - confused why KJ is in and not only that, they set the final shot up for him? Completely dumbfounded.

It wasn't actually a good start to the season. Seton Hall, Umass, and Iona all turned out to be awful compared to their usual standards. We were never good, none of those were genuinely good wins.

Below .500 in the CAA, below .500 in D1 games. Bottom 40 in the entire country in both PPG and KenPom offensive efficiency (and those stats are inflated by the 2 D3 games so actually worse). This is just a BAD basketball team.

Also, if it wasn't already past due to start throwing some heat on Speedy... he drew up a final play for Robinson in a game where the kid hadn't made a shot. Were we just winning on pure talent the last couple years? X/O wise almost every team we play embarrasses us

Also one of the craziest plays draw I’ve seen with 6 seconds left. Could have gotten a much better look with a simple inbound and pick. Another horrendous blown game

We are watching some awful basketball and yes some of the calls and moves by the coaching staff are perplexing to say the least. Why no DeCady today? He seems to bring some energy to the team.
