Baha Mar Nassau Championship

Post by RainDelay »

Of course we have the individual game threads, but what’s your outlook for Pride men’s basketball this weekend in the Baha Mar tournament?

I’m shooting for 2-1 while also naming 3-0 as a realistic possibility.

The one loss (going conservative) on my list is Arkansas State.

Arkansas St is no slouch and neither is Rice. Rice played Florida State tougher than us and so far that is their only loss...Would like to see 3-0 but it could easily be 1-2 if we keep turning the ball over.

Definitely have to focus on taking care of the ball and let the pieces fall where they may from there. Rice is a tough opponent but I’m feeling optimistic because we will hopefully be fired up to play some mid majors after this last stretch.

Rice did play FSU quite well but barely squeaked by Houston Christian and had another narrow win against Florida International. Nothing is ever guaranteed but definitely a “winnable” game.

I really like this team and the pieces Speedy has assembled...hopefully this tournament gives this group the opportunity to jell and be ready for CAA play.

Rice will be favored in that game I would imagine and like has been said Arkansas St is no push over. Tarleton is a game we should win but the other two will be tough.

It looks like Rice is a 2.5 -3.5 point favorite but like has been said a winnable game.

Our favorite newspaper has the spread at -2.5 for us as does ESPN.
Strangely ESPN gives us only a 45.5% chance of winning although the spread indicates we're favorites.

CTDutch beg to differ...ESPN has HOFSTRA as 2.5 pt FAVS!

I am pretty sure it said Rice earlier this morning. My bad, sorry for the confusion!

Just turned on flohoops to watch a few minutes of Tarleton vs Iona. The sound quality was soooo bad you could not understand what the announcers were saying. The stream was so choppy you could barely follow the flow of the game. Hope our game has better quality (but I'm not optimistic)!

Midway through the second half Tarelton had 40 pts.

Guess I read the line wrong but ESPN showing Rice favored to win. Computer nonsense.

Yes we did cover, however it took overtime to do it...hope we'll have an easier time against Tarlton.

Davis spurs Hofstra in OT

Cruz Davis scored seven of his 22 points in overtime as Hofstra (5-3) knocked off Rice, 68-63, in the Baha Mar Hoops event in Nassau, Bahamas

They gave us an extra loss! This “Newsday Article” is actually pulled from the AI recap on ESPN. Makes me a little less worried about AI taking our jobs lol

Looked at KenPom last night. Of all six teams in our tournament, we have the second-highest rating (152) after Arkansas State (105).

My original prediction of 2-1 was correct but switch the results of Arkansas State and Tarleton State.

Definitely a mix of positives and negatives to take away from their trip to the Bahamas.

They have a get-right game on Friday against St Joseph’s (LI) so hopefully they can work some stuff out
