William and Mary and Northeastern
William and Mary and Northeastern
In my estimation at the start of conference play our greatest competition will be from Northeastern and William and Mary. They will be big chalengers for us.
Re: William and Mary and Northeastern
Haven't seen NU yet, but certainly on paper their squad has the right pieces to be a challenge - excellent starting 5 - not much depth, but the starting talent is legit, with a superb post game (obviously HU's light spot right now) - I do think HU's guards are as good or better, so it will be a battle for sure
Watched the W&M vs CofC game, and I'll say the Tribe seems to play a very fundamentally sound game - not too flashy, not overly athletic or fast, but they play a solid game of basketball - nice ball movement, good shot selection, etc.
Believe HU is faster and more athletic, and will present them with some matchup problems as pluses for HU - Thornton is a very good player, but didn't see anything that showed me he's any better than Green or Tanksley (and I don't think he is - even with a slight edge to HU based on what I've seen) - however all is proven on the court
These will be very good games IMO, huge ones that will likely decide who's #1 in the league when the reg season is done, and who takes home the crown in B'more
PS: don't sleep on Elon either - that is the surprise team IMO in the CAA - haven't seen them play yet, but by all accounts they're ready to hold their own

Re: William and Mary and Northeastern
UNCW beat Northeastern on their home court last night. That to me is pretty good news for us...shows they can be beaten at home and their coach said they had trouble with UNCW's quick tempo offense. If that is the case wait until they see us...I believe we have the talent to win this conference and now we are demonstrating that we can win games in different ways...we need to stay healthy and we should be fine...should be a fun ride...like to see more people get on the bandwagon though, only 1300 plus people for Delaware even though school is out that is a poor turnout.

W&M uses a simple drive and box out. Their center and weak side forward clear out the middle and let their guards get into the paint for a clear shot at the basket. They are good at boxing out opposing front lines. We need to have a strong center hold fort and reject their drives to the basket. Take that away and let W&M beat you with outside shooting.
