After Northeastern's win tonight, they displayed on the screen that Quincy Ford is a redshirt junior who has not declared a major. How is that possible?

Evan not saying it has happened in this case but I know of several college football players who were allowed to take electives before some of their required core classes. Its keeps them eligible to play. These players then declared for the NFL draft in what would have been their senior year.
