I’m sorry I know they didn’t play well down the stretch but the officials bailed High Point out on almost every miss. They have called a ton of Ricky tack fouls and kept HP in the game

High Point: 16/31 including 7/14 in the second half. Would be a shame if they waste this career-best effort from Thomas and don't get the title because of the D after halftime. Need some stops in OT.

Hofstra very fortunate High Point went 4/11 at the stripe in the first half (seven of their 12 misses for the game).ProudofPride wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 10:50 pm Just now getting a chance to check in on the score/live stats, game currently in OT.

And then, High Point 0/10 in OT.
That as not as easy as it should have been but hey, they weathered it and got the title! 3 in 3 days. Do the same in 111 days.

HU hangs on for W. Given the poor officiating, it was a tough game to watch.

Gritty win considering all the fouls. Take your trophy, celebrate, and go home

Ugly win in a second-rate tournament.
Too many mental mistakes. We have a lot of situational work to clean up.

We had so many guys foul out I thought Speedy and Parratta were going to suit up.

And to think I thought CAA refs were lousy.... holy cow!
All things considered, that might have been the worst game where both teams scored 90+ I've ever seen. I guess give Hofstra credit for taking every punch and still winning?
And 40 pt games should never be taken for granted, congrats to Tyler there.

Drives me nuts - up 9 with 1:30 to play - No Fouls, No 3's and if you make barely any FT's you win the game easily. Takes 5 possessions to pass you without any FT's on your part - instead they give up 3's and foul 3 pt shooters- incredibly stupid. Congrats on a gritty W - Officiating about as bad as it gets - 17 2nd 1/2 fouls - Are you kidding me ? - 31 for the game. Scary to think how good we'd be if Estrada had stayed.

It was tied at 14, and the next tie was at 88. The video stopped working to make me miss Duke Miles's second four-point play of the half to tie the game with 18 seconds left. Scoring slowed down in overtime, and we won 97-92.
Thomas became the first player from 2010-2011 to now to make at least 6 three-pointers, at least 6 two-pointers, at least 10 free throws without a miss, and have at least 8 rebounds.
It was the first time from 2010-2011 to now that we had four players foul out. I wish I could find out the last time any team did that, but that requires checking 363 teams one at a time.

Factoid - TTs 40 pts marked the first time this year any D1 player scored 40 pts!

Mama mia... that was unnecessary, but thank you Lord I can enjoy Thanksgiving fully tomorrow!! Ugly win, should've NEVER come to that, but take it all day and run. Erased the bad taste of the two losses, and coming back to NY with positive momentum for a really nice game against USF at home.
I did call HPU being no pushover and a bit underrated right now, they gave HU all they could handle - no way that's a bottom feeder in the Big South. May not win it, but far from worst.
But they were absolutely helped along by some awful HU play at the end of regulation (looking at you Washington, you owe this team a win), and some very questionable officiating - you gotta let the players play in a game like this, can't be taking complete control of the game with your whistle - a bit ridiculous.
HU bigs certainly needs to learn how to play D w/out constantly fouling, but I feel like I say that every year - believing Parrotta will do his thing. HU put them at the line WAY too much, and they were also gifted some calls. Outside of that, HU has GOT to stop the poor starts. Playing from behind every game isn't a winning strategy.
That said, this was a GUTTY win - to win despite all that didn't go right, says something about this squad. They won 3 in 3, that's huge.
Had 2 true freshman on the floor to bring it home in OT. Tons of bench burn. That's going to pay off down the road. Fritz had a crappy game but overall this tourney I saw some signs with him - he can become what's needed with more work. Dubar maturing, and Carlos, man this kid is stepping up and playing inspired ball - his charge with 4 fouls was BIG TIME.
I can say that about the whole team - they are far from a finished product, but they showed us some promise in FL, exactly what was needed.
And the biggest takeaway for me, the crown of this event, is Thomas showed hell yes he can be #1. He still has to take too many shots to get there, needs to get more efficient, but he fought his butt off this week, and deserves kudos.
Congrats to the team, winning cures a lot, enjoy this fellas - get back home and to keep getting better. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I wonder if the four players fouling out and 31 total team fouls are the most in game that HU won.
