Justin Wright-Foreman's Legacy

Post by Jojogunne »

Where will Justin Wright-Foreman finish among Hofstra's all-time leading scorers?

He currently has 1,902 career points. Assume Justin scores 25 ppg in his remaining games:
  • With 10 regular-season games to go, he could add another 250 points to bring him up to 2,152 (fourth place, just ahead of Loren Stokes).

Add three CAA playoff games, and Justin could score 75 points more to edge past Steve Nisenson into third place with 2,227 points.

Two or more postseason games, and he could climb past Antoine Agudio into second place.
Here are Hofstra's top-eight career scoring leaders:

1) Charles Jenkins (2007-11) 2,513
2) Antoine Agudio (2004-08) 2,276
3) Steve Nisenson (1962-65) 2,222
4) Loren Stokes (2003-07) 2,148
5) Rich Laurel (1973-77) 2,102
6) Bill Thieben (1953-56) 2,045
7) Craig “Speedy” Claxton (1996-00) 2,015
8) Justin Wright-Foreman (2015-19) 1,902

To be fair here if we factor out Justin's freshman year and just compare him to these players for sophomore thru senior years he would be near the top maybe on the top. His stats in his freshman year were nil with very little playing time which was not his fault. He became a victim of circumstance if you will so lets leave it there as food for thought.

Hey those 7 names are not chopped liver. Justin is in very good company. Would not mind a team of those 8 players

Not dissing them in any way but everyone of those players I'm sure played a lot more minutes in their freshmen year which makes comparison to Justin a bit slanted. What he has put up in really three years is quite remarkable.

JWF is easily one of the greatest players in HU history, that is already a fact. IMO his legacy that is still being formed this year is as a LEADER - and this is where he can make his name and separate himself from the pack - he has a tremendous opportunity to cement it with a trip to the dance and doing damage once there.

That right there will put him in legendary status, and would be deservingly so. Only a couple of top guys have ever even gotten there at HU - do it, and he's among the lore - WIN while in the NCAAT, and he will go down as the greatest ever up to this point, regardless of any scoring records or anything else.

All right there for the taking - and we have the incredible chance to bear witness!

I believe Nisenson and Thieben played only three years of varsity. Don't know if their freshmen year stats are included in these totals. More, they and Rich Laurel did not benefit from the three-point shot, so factor that in as well.

The point is, until I heard Coach mention that Justin was closing in on Speedy's career point total I did not realize that Just had that many points.

It will be interesting to see where he finishes.

FYI, here is the updated list after the Towson game:

1) Charles Jenkins (2007-11) 2,513
2) Antoine Agudio (2004-08) 2,276
3) Steve Nisenson (1962-65) 2,222
4) Loren Stokes (2003-07) 2,148
5) Rich Laurel (1973-77) 2,102
6) Bill Thieben (1953-56) 2,045
7) Craig “Speedy” Claxton (1996-00) 2,015
8) Justin Wright-Foreman (2015-19) 1,927

I think he'll almost certainly pass Stokes but won't quite catch Agudio and maybe not Nisenson. He has a decent shot at Nisenson, but would have to play multiple games beyond the CAA tourney for that, I think.

An NIT appearance would figure to give him a best chance to end up with the most points he could possibly get rather than an NCAAT bid (best chance to extend his career with more games).

But I don't think he really cares where he ends up on HU's scoring list. At this point, his legacy will be great regardless, and wherever he ends up on the scoring list, will be enhanced the most by doing what he wants the most -- helping Hofstra end that 18-year NCAAT drought.

Freshmen weren't allowed to play in their days.

JWF wins third MBWA award and sixth CAA player of the week award - and we still have more than a month left in the season! Awesome

If he leads us to a CAA Championship he will surely go down as one of Hofstra's all time Greats.

Win an NCAA Tourney game and he will be IMMORTAL!

In all fairness he's going to go down as one of the all time great HU players whether we win a CAA championship or not. He's already solidified his legacy here but it certainly will be the whipped cream on the cake if we can win it.

Agree. He's already one of the all-time Hofstra greats right now. But go to the NCAA tourney, and he's got that extra part of the legacy that only Speedy has among the modern-era Hofstra greats.

Yes and we have a team that could go to the field of 32 just got to get thru the door.

With the right draws, they have all of the ingredients this year to go to a Sweet 16. Of course, they could also lose in the CAA tourney again. But this year, the upside is there for not only making the NCAAT, but to make some noise in it.

Gotta agree with you Wags. The talent and chemistry is there. Just have to stay focused and execute consistent play. One stinker in the CAAT, and...…

They also need to keep up the good play the rest of the season to keep a good seed. We don't need them to get in to the dance as a 14+ seed and draw a stud ACC or SEC team. Keep up the current level of play and get something around a 12 seed and all kinds of possibilities open up.

Yes. And this is where the regular season absolutely matters, even though many (especially the very casual observers who only follow in March) say it doesn't.
