Re: Transfer Portal
Of what I see it looks like a good get. Top scorer at SHU. Couple of nice comments from some local basketball writers on twitter. Saw one that says he’d be a good replacement for Ray. Finally some news on someone coming in! Let’s keep it up Speedy!

Re: Transfer Portal
Thomas is a big (6-3), athletic guard who attacks the rim. Nice mid-range game, like Estrada. Should do well for us:

Could be a good replacement for Ray but a bit of a different player and he has some hops able to go up for alley oops. A high riser and we need very athletic kids that can play above the rim.

Re: Transfer Portal
Also was thinking re this kid since he played in a weaker league against some softer opponents that maybe his stats won't transfer here but looked at some box scores from last year and he had a 24 point game vs LaSalle and scored 30 points vs Rhode Island. Definitely impressive.

Re: Transfer Portal
In addition he was the 6th leading scorer in the conference and hit 65 three's which I think was fourth in the league and shot it at a 34% rate. Also an 80% FT shooter. All good numbers.
Re: Transfer Portal
Looks like a pretty good get...should replace Ray as a scorer but bigger and more physical...We'll this is a start, can't wait to see what comes next.

Re: Transfer Portal
Another good article on the internet. His main position in H.S. was PG. THis kid is versatile and a high riser. Note the number of dunks in his video.

Re: Transfer Portal
I realize these videos are highlights ... all the shots go in ... but I like what I see. Thomas scores with authority, can hit the three, passes to the open man, and can score with either hand. I peg him as a starter.

Transfer Portal
For sure a starter but let’s see who else we get. The point to be made here is that this kid could be our PG at least get some minutes at the point.

Re: Transfer Portal
Highlights and stats look promising. Hope highlights of his defense skills are as impressive
Wonder how a kid with these nice high school stats and highlights ended up at SH. Wonder what kind of other offers he had out of high school. In the end, likely doesn't matter, as Speedy has based his signing on latest work at SH and combined that with what he thinks he can coach/teach/mold this kid into. Hopefully Speedy sees another success (like Estrada) in the making.
So he is listed as a Junior (has already played 2 years). So does that mean because of covid he has 3 years left to play at HU???

Sounds like potentially three years.

Re: Transfer Portal
Sacred Heart has a former Hofstra coach on its staff. Kyle Steinglass I think is his name.
I wonder if he recommended Thomas.
Also I looked at his game stats and he hoisted a ton of shots at Sacred Heart. Plenty of games with 20+ shots.
May have to not be such a volume shooter here.
Hoping he is a great get.

Re: Transfer Portal
Kyle Steinway. Friendly guy. Makes sense that he might have been part of the connection between Thomas and HU.
Re: Transfer Portal
This should be a good get for an incoming CAA rival. Nesbitt played pretty well for St. Louis after barely seeing any time at Memphis.

Re: Transfer Portal
FYI I read somewhere there are over *1,400* players in the transfer portal!!! HOLY SMOKES
I really have no idea whether this is good or bad, but it's clearly a 'thing' in this new collegiate world. Anything that grows to that scale that quickly gives vibes of danger IMO... where the heck is this all going?!?

Re: Transfer Portal
To put that sizeable number in perspective, let's say on average, the 358 Division I teams go about 8 deep (for guys that actually see impactful playing time, not just averaging very few minutes per game with no real impact).
358 x 8 = 2,864
1,424 / 2,864 = 49.7%
So, on average, about half of the "real" rotations throughout the nation are turning over through the portal this offseason.
Re: Transfer Portal
I think even using the total number it's like 20%, right??
Bananas. Something will give or break here eventually. Maybe the NCAA itself lol.
