What a story that would be Hofstra becoming an annex for St Peter's basketball players. Maybe a good reunion with Estrada if in fact he played with any of these guys?Jojogunne wrote:Three of Saint Peter's best sophomores are now in the portal: leading scorer Daryl Banks III, three-point specialist Doug Edert and PG Matthew Lee (Butch's son). Re: Transfer Portal
I really like that kid Banks he's a real scrappy in your face player who can score.
Re: Transfer Portal
Serge Clement was an assistant coach at Saint Peters for five years. He and Speedy should be all over these guys. Instant backcourt!

I’m with you here but I wonder if these kids now have loftier aspirations thinking they can walk on water??

Maybe these kids think they can play at Seton Halls level and will try to follow him there.

Re: Transfer Portal
Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, but this is a "transfer" of a different kind, one that should benefit HU as it's one less good head coach to worry about in the CAA:
Elon head coach Mike Schrage has stepped down and will join Jon Scheyer’s staff at Duke.

He did. They were all freshman when Estrada won the MAAC FOYtriplec2195 wrote:What a story that would be Hofstra becoming an annex for St Peter's basketball players. You never know and as we saw this past year even with tons of talent its no guarantee you're going to win it all. The Ray/Cooks connection needed more time to develop. Yeah I think these guys made the all rookie team with Aaron winning ROY award. Let's see how it plays out but I'm sure these kids have options.CTDutch wrote:He did. The Saint Peter's players are garnering a lot of media attention. Here's one story, with info about other prospective NJ transfers as well:

Plus reaction from fans at Saint Peter's and Seton Hall:

It's quite likely that we fill most of our roster with transfers as opposed to H.S. players especially with the voluminous amount of kids on the portal.Jojogunne wrote:The Saint Peter's players are garnering a lot of media attention. Re: Transfer Portal
Agree on Banks tc, would def take him - would be a great compliment to Estrada. HU needs gritty players like that.
Carlos is very likely going to the PG at this stage - that's why he's here. HU needs another good sized hard nosed guard that can impact both O and D.
But he / they may get bigger options capitalizing on the attention from this run. Absolutely worth trying though, esp with AE and Clements.
Whatever HU does, and whoever they bring in, they BETTER play some damn defense. I am so sick of hearing about how many 3s they shoot. I don't want to see any more 3 pt specialists with zero other game - had enough of watching Hofstra players run down the floor and put up a rushed unnecessary 3 before any teammate even has a chance to get there
I don't care one iota about O only players. I want to see shooting efficiency, good decision making, and some friggin DEFENSE.

Re: Transfer Portal
Rothstein reporting Cramer transferring to Bryant, along with Doug Edert of St Peter's. Sorry to see Cramer go, but he can be a star in America East (Bryant's new league).

Bryant seems to offer just about everyone in the country and have built successful teams over there. Although now they’ll have to compete with Vermont a real mid major program.

Bryant just gave Grasso a five-year extension.

Re: Transfer Portal
He deserves it he’s making good things happen, they’ve moved from the NEC #29 to the America East # 24 in conference rankings. All big positives. He’s a winner.

Yep - would’ve loved to have hired Grasso here - super recruiter and is building something right now at a complete no name - and that school is making moves to better themselves
I like the move by Cramer - he should get opps there - hope he capitalized and crushes it
Nice pull for them with Edert - good level for him, and he’ll def get a chance to shoot - Bryant could shake up the AE, esp with SBU gone - nothing there but Vermont. Totally winnable league for a guy like Grasso who can bring in the talent - can he coach em, we’ll see - I think so, but it’s def not been an overnight deal
Both of those guys, although def not superstars, have some juice and I believe could’ve gone ‘higher’ - nice pulls for Grasso
Meanwhile at Hofstra, crickets still, no news. No teasers. No bites. No hints. No rumors. Gotta give the fanbase something Speedy after a hugely disappointing season end, cmon dude. You have big needs to put a true champion on the floor, and there’s a million transfers available, let’s get some excitement going pls!

Re: Transfer Portal
Credit should also go to their AD Bill Smith who hired Grasso for mens basketball and ex Duke coach for mens lacrosse.
Smith seems to have full autonomy. This is a school with a little over 4,000 enrollment and they have a football team.

Re: Transfer Portal
Yep, very. Like I've said, the W's staff is legit, they are going to be a problem. Would've been nice for HU to have taken more advantage of them being down. I don't have a lot of confidence based on history of taking them down when they rise back to the top, which I have predicted will be very soon.
Frustrating. Let's go Speedy, doesn't matter what year you're in, no one else waits for you to and your staff to be 'ready' - you're behind. Gotta get this program in gear. The made up low 'bar' of 20 regular season wins but no title, bowing out in the CAAT, and not making the dance while other programs rise up is gonna get old real fast. Should already be if this school actually wants the NCAAT.
HU has a really nice foundation as program, but they need to level up asap - way too complacent and status quo over the years - they can do it, but it's going to take a different approach from before - they need a no nonsense, win or bust approach by Speedy & Co - and need to see some URGENCY from this university to win NOW, not in X years.
