MBB recruits 2015
Re: MBB recruits 2015
I think Samuel would be very nice addition...would give us some size at guard the year after Green graduates and hopefully he will work diligently on his shot the year he sits out...not sure if there is anything better that staff is still working on?? Buie and Foreman report to Hofstra on 6/24 and will be taking summer classes
Re: MBB recruits 2015
Yeah let's put some perspective on a guy like Samuel:
6'4 200lbs
Brooklyn HS star
3 * player
Rivals 150
PLAYED for UConn (did not ride the pine)
Was the heir apparent to Shabazz Napier (considered the next go to star point)
OFFERS: Cincy, Dayton, Iowa St, Louisville, Oregon St, Penn St, Pitt, URI, Rutgers, Temple, Tennesee, and Nova
And some want to question this kids value to HU because he didn't put up 20+ for a national title team? Um ok.
I don't believe the kid forgot how to play ball - perhaps he just didn't flourish in that system, that environment, that school, that staff, that team, who the heck knows - could be anything - but in actuality he's leaving with a good rep for being a guy who scored key points in key situations and played well for his minutes
Now granted the other side is he could just not be a player who translates great in college - that def happens - but he's absolutely worth the shot here
And lets not act like HU couldn't use a guy who brings size and experience/maturity to the guard spot... And most likely pretty good talent as well - if staff feels he's still got 'it' then rock and roll he could be a huge get

Re: MBB recruits 2015
This was my quote from several days ago:
"He had better be a great defender and ball handler/passer......played 20 min per game last year areraging 3 PPG. Had no 3-pointers all season. Obviously not a shooter"
I was not questioning the kids potential value to HU - only the type of scorer he might be. Are we looking for a guy who is a sure fire knock down shooter - no I don't think that the case. Do I think he could contribute - of course I do....just saying that he is likely not to be a 20 ppg guy. I would be happy to have him on the team and I'm sure he would make us better.
I guess my comment sounded like I was questioning the entire package - which it was not meant to.
Edit - i just had a chance to look at some hs video of TS. While his main offensive attributes seem to be driving, ball handling, and passing, he does show a decent 3 point shot. So I assume he either hits a low percentage of 3s or was told by UConn staff that he is not to take any 3s (maybe because other shooters were more reliable). In any case, he can shoot the 3, maybe he justs needs more consistency (lots of practice and help from Speedy could help there).

I think the first week in July the 2015-2016 rosters are posted on the website
Re: MBB recruits 2015
Any word on how the visits went? Have not seen that they signed with any one else? Also Iona seems to be mentioned with EVERY kid! How many scholarships do they have???? AMAZING!
Re: MBB recruits 2015
Asked JAM how visits went and he responded, "good, more work to do"
Love to see us land this kid Samuel...would give us a nice group of guards his jr year [Samuel, Bernardi, Buie, & Foreman] Speaking of Buie he finished up very strong in HS playoffs & a number of Allstar type games following the HS season...with hard work and good coaching look for Buie to be top PG in CAA JR year...he & Foreman are reporting to campus on 6/24....

Re: MBB recruits 2015
all good Cards, know what you're saying - and to be fair, he wasn't a big scorer at UConn, and just because he played there doesn't mean he'll be a star here...we've been down that road many times, and just recently with a 4* from UConn who never got over his injuries
Just balancing that thought with the other facts around what he brings to the table
At any rate, even if Samuel comes aboard, HU needs to find a lights-out shooter / game-changing scorer in this next class

We are what you would call an "outlier" among the schools Dyson is considering.ProudofPride wrote:Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein 17m17 minutes ago
