Ray keeps forcing and sadly keeps missing. A sloppy game right now.

OMG drive the ball!! Please guard Loewe they don't have much else!!!!!!

When Kante is back in they should just consistently feed him - was working well early.

We let Bill and Mary hang around and took too many bad shots. This game realistically could have been a blow out. We let Loewe score in the paint off an inbound with 1 second on the shot clock! REALLY!!

Three point game now with 55 seconds left our ball. This is all our own doing to have this game close now!!
Re: Game 8 Hosting William & Mary on 1/2/2021 at 2:00 P.M.
Did just enough - they were clearly the better team, but way closer than it should have been. Hopefully they will learn from a sloppy performance.

Well...that one was ugly. 11-19 on free throws, 2-18 from deep. Brights spots were Burgess and Kante, love seeing Burgess with 7 assists and no turnovers. The good news is we got a win while our best scorer was ice-cold. Hopefully Ray and Coburn can step up more tomorrow -- 20 points combined from them is not gonna cut it most nights.

61-56 win we played poorly they played worse and again we missed a lot of FT's. Masic in at the end of the game in a close game honestly I haven't him seen him hit a F.T???

We forgot to mention the highlight of the game an unbelievable one hand dunk by Cramer over their 6'9 Center. Incredible!!

I know somw of you dont like this term but that was a rock fight. As ugly a game as a game can get, BUT it is still a win. We were bad and W&M was worse. Still 1-0 in conference Just win baby. I expect and hope that this team will come back tomorrow and be pissed and has a game they are capable of.

Mediocre performance, gave up way too many offensive rebounds, shot poorly, but we played good defense and led nearly wire to wire so good win, 1-0.
I would expect to see the offensive gameplan revolve more around Ray and Coburn tomorrow, maybe some gamesmanship on our part since we coasted the last 30 minutes of the game.

We're good enough to do things wrong and win, albeit today should have been easy.
Here are how individual statistics changed:
Kante: 15 points, average from 13.3 to 13.5
Coburn: 13 points, average from 18.1 to 17.5 (tied with Ray); 2 rebounds, average from 3.9 to 3.6 (it was 5.5 last season); 3 blocks, average from 0.3 to 0.6
Ray: 7 points, average from 19.0 to 17.5 (tied with Coburn); 9 rebounds, average from 2.3 to 3.1 (tied with Burgess); 3 assists, average from 4.3 to 4.1
Green: 4 points, average from 2.7 to 2.9; 3 rebounds, average from 2.0 to 2.1
Burgess: 9 points, average from 4.9 to 5.3; 7 rebounds, average from 2.6 to 3.1 (tied with Ray); 7 assists, average from 4.0 to 4.3, passed Ray
Cramer: 9 points, average from 7.7 to 7.9; 5 rebounds, average from 6.3 to 6.1
Here are how team statistics changed:
Field goal percentage: 24/64 = .375, .435 to .427
Three-point field goal percentage: 2/18 = .111, .315 to .296
Free throw percentage: 11/19 = .579, .696 to .684
Rebounds: 45, average from 36.0 to 37.1
Blocks: 7, average from 2.0 to 2.6, going into today we had 7 blocks in our two highest games combined, it was out most blocks since we blocked 7 in a 87-72 win at Princeton on December 19, 2019; the last time we had more than 7 blocks was when we had 8 in a 76-67 win over JMU in the CAA Quarterfinals on March 10, 2019
Turnovers: 9, average from 12.9 to 12.4
Mekhel Harvey did something for the first time since at least 2010-2011, and it has so many parts that I wouldn't be surprised if it had never happened. He had 10 rebounds before scoring. He had 1 point, 7 offensive rebounds, 9 defensive rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 blocks. He became the first player from 2010-2011 to the present to score 0 or 1 point, have at least 7 offensive rebounds, and have at least 9 defensive rebounds. I didn't even need his assists and blocks to make something that happened for the first time in the season the College Basketball at Sports-Reference Play Index exists for.
I just watched the end of Delaware's 70-67 win hosting Charleston. Charleston never led, and Delaware's largest lead was 13. It was similar to our game. Payton Willis scored 21 and missed an open three that would have tied the game with 1 second left. Delaware's point guard, Kevin Anderson, played 2:29 and left for good, so I want to find out if he is injured. Delaware had two freshmen combine for a majority of their points. Gianmarco Arletti, who didn't score in his first five games, scored 21. Andrew Carr scored 15. Ryan Allen had a similar game to Ray with 9 points 5 of which were free throws.

Pretty ugly game, maybe because of the long layoff...We will need Ray and Coburn to be better tomorrow and I expect they will be. Kanye a double double macine and Cramer a budding star.
Is Silverio gone? Did not see him on bench, Truehart there but no time, does he warm up? Also was Zion Bethea there? Did not see him either...
Team getting to be a bit thin with these back to back games IMO

Yeah I wonder why we never get any feedback on what is going on with these players. Trueheart hasn't stepped out on the court we can only assume he's hurt but throw us a bone. We should have gotten info. on him a long time ago. We know the family situation and injury with Bethea but we had been led to believe he would be playing VERY soon. Now no Silverio what is his status?? I know some of you are happy he's not playing and you have some right to be but he does have an upside to his game and at least is a decent FT shooter if he finds a way to get fouled, lol.HUSID74 wrote:Pretty ugly game, maybe because of the long layoff...We will need Ray and Coburn to be better tomorrow and I expect they will be. This was a perfect example of why I (and others) said after the Monmouth game, with the 96 points and the career-highs for Ray and Coburn in that game, that the primary focus needs to remain at the defensive end of the floor.
This team is going to have its games when it shoots well and probably more games when it doesn't. Today was definitely the latter. HU only shot 37.5% for the game and an atrocious 2/18 from 3, and was held to just 27 second-half points at home. All of those stats should've added up to a loss in the CAA opener, but they instead got the win because despite all of the offensive struggles, they held W&M in check other than Loewe. He definitely got his, but no one else on the Tribe really did any damage. When you can hold a CAA opponent to just 56 points, to just 12/32 from 2 and 8/30 from 3, you're doing your job defensively enough to win, even when you have your own offensive deficiencies. This was a good win. It's a game that, offensively, they should have lost. But they didn't hang their heads because of misses. They did what they had to do at the other end of the floor to win.
Defense ultimately won the CAA regular season and tourney titles last year and it will ultimately be the deciding factor for HU again this year. That said, they obviously need more consistency at the offensive end. Nice double-double from Kante (big today) and shout out to Burgess, who still can't shoot (4/12 today), but continues to show good AST/TO ration at the point. 7 asts (half of HU's 14) and NO turnovers for him in 36 minutes today.
It'll be really interesting to see how tomorrow plays out with this crazy schedule this year. Normally, you regroup, play someone else later on. But to play the same team on the same floor the next day, is going to be interesting the first time around tomorrow.

Triplec: You are exactly right, the reporting on player status is awful. I realize HU has to bite its so-called tongue a bit on personnel matters, but athletic injuries, playing time, player development etc. would seem to be fair game, but rarely anything. If you want to have fans you need to open up a little. In any event, a win is a win and hopefully we'll get back-to-backs.

p.s Happy 21st anniversary The Mack today, which opened with a blowout win over Boston U. on 1/2/00.
