MBB Game 1 - @ Princeton, 11/7/22, 7:30 PM

Post by Jojogunne »

Hard to believe our first MBB game is a week from today.

Here's a link to Princeton's website. It has some nice videos to go along with the usual info. The Tigers have 17 players, including five who are 6-9 or taller:

Go to the Princeton website. Go to mens basketball schedule. To the right click on International feed. It is on their stretch video feed.

Edit; Must have read the spread wrong, Looks like HU is a 2.5 to 3 point underdog at PU on Monday. I'm kind of surprised at this spread, I thought it might be closer to only a one point spread either way.

ESPN has us as 2.5 point underdogs and gives us a 47% chance of winning

https://goprincetontigers.com/sidearmst ... ll/summary will have statistics. Unfortunately they use SIDEARMLiveStats, which I do not like as much as StatBroadcast that CAA teams use.

Seeing Princeton -2.5 elsewhere as well, with a 151 O/U, which equates to an expected 77-74 Princeton win.

Basically calling these teams even without the home court advantage. I saw last years game at HU and Princeton was down double digits at the half but made it a very close game in the second half. They did lose their leading scorer but they will be a tough team. HU will be playing with 3 new starters so who knows how we will play. A work in progress I would imagine.

Here is Princeton's very thorough game preview:

https://goprincetontigers.com/news/2022 ... fstra.aspx

The Tigers won the Ivy League regular-season title last year, but lost in the conference tournament to Yale. They advanced to the NIT, but lost to VCU in the first round. And while the Tigers did beat South Carolina and Oregon State last year, we prevailed at home last December.

Still, the Tigers have a lot of talent and a deep, tall bench. Tosan Evbuomwan (#20), Ivy League POTY, is back, along with three-point specialist Ryan Langborg (#3).

Estrada was one of four players last season to average at least 18.5 points (excluding a value that rounds up to 18.5), 5.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. Tosan Evbuomwan was one of two players last season to average at least 6.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He is a forward who served as a point guard. He shot threes 2-17 and free throws .564.

Princeton has players from athletic families including two brothers of Caden Pierce. His brother Alec is a rookie for the Indianapolis Colts and has 25 receptions for 396 yards in 9 games. His brother Justin scored 980 points in three seasons for William & Mary, then transferred to North Carolina where he averaged 10.8 points and 8.7 rebounds off the bench. He is playing in Europe.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Great first game to kick off the season - Princeton is a quality opponent and returns some talent just like HU. They also are looking for new pieces to step up just like HU.

I am very excited to see the lineup game 1 and how ready the guys look to play real ball.

Hoping to see toughness, defense, and the beginnings of an actual offense. I also want to see chatter and communication on the floor.

Only the first game so I won’t expect true leadership and cohesiveness yet, but certainly would like to see the seeds of both.

Go get em fellas! Roll Pride!

http://defiantlydutch.blogspot.com/2022 ... ceton.html is Jerry Beach's "I'll Be Quirky: Princeton." Princeton will play four CAA teams. Hofstra was second in the CAA Preseason Poll for the first time. In Hofstra's first 21 CAA seasons, the only teams picked second to make the NCAA Tournament were Virginia Commonwealth, who won the 2004 CAA Tournament, and George Mason, who got an at-large bid in 2011. That was the only season the CAA got three bids, and Virginia Commonwealth went from the First Four to the Final Four, which required winning five games. Old Dominion won the 2011 CAA Tournament.

Starting lineup posted. Nelson seems to be the surprise. At least to me.

According to WRHU, C Warren Williams out for tonight's game. No reason given.

Nelson Boachie-Yiadom starting instead, backed by Christian Tomasco.
