Hi,

I write for TheBonaBlog (http://www.thebonablog.com) and was hoping to get in contact with somebody that is knowledgeable on the Men's Basketball Program. I would like to do just a short q and a through email if possible and I can certainly return the favor for this message board or any site that you may write for.

email is TheBonaBlog58@gmail.com or reply here, thanks again.

Did anyone get back to you on this?
Also, would you mind posting the article when you've written it? I'd like to read a preview article written by an opposing team's fan, and I'm sure much of this board would as well.

Nobody did get back to me but I was watching today on cbssportsnetwork and tried to jot a few things down

1. Best player? I have to believe Nichols who can play all five spots on the floor is there best? Any thoughts? The Niagara transfers don't seem threatening to me but I've seen very little of them at Hofstra.

2. Season so far, 3-2 and very close to be 4-1, is this team a contender in the CAA? I know it's only OOC right now but one bid league there have to be favorites.

3. Offensive mentality, I've seen one paradise jame game but the offense looked sluggish, what is there identity on offense?

Thanks and I'll post the preview on Friday, we aren't homers and try to call things how we see them. Good luck Saturday.

1. Best is certainly not Nichols. He's a great player but Juan'ya Green is our best player and the favorite for CAA player of the year. After Juan'ya the best was Ameen Tanksley last year, but this year it's been Brian Bernardi. One of the best shooters in the county.

2. Were the favorite in most projections and analysts opinions to win the CAA

3. Our offensive relies on our 3 point shooting. As you saw vs Inidiana State, when we don't hit the three, we don't play well. Drive and kick is the go to. Our big men aren't too polished down low.

http://caasports.com/custompages/stats/ ... ofstra.htm has Hofstra's statistics this season and http://caasports.com/custompages/stats/ ... ofstra.htm has Hofstra's statistics last season. Juan'ya Green was 9th in Division I in assists per game last season and is 13th so far this season. He has 1,807 points and could become the fourth player to score at least 1,000 points for two schools. If he does that, two of the four players will be transfers to the CAA because Gary Neal did that. If Green keeps his current 19.2 points per game and Hofstra plays 31 games (the fewest they could), Green will score 595 points this season, 1,175 with Hofstra (which would rank him 22nd on Hofstra's all-time list), and 2,306 in his career. To show how hard 2,306 is to get, Charles Jenkins is the only player to score at least 2,306 points at Hofstra.

St. Bonaventure edged Canisius, 78-74; we defeated Canisius 96-85. Can we beat the Bonnies on the road? Depends if we can play some defense. Marcus Posley put up 35 pts. last game, and he has a strong supporting cast.

The question is who plays an all around team game. The Bonnies will get their 20+ from Posely but will need another source or two to get into the 80's. Even if the Bonnies can muzzle Green, Tanksley and Bernardi are going to be able to shoulder the load on offense from what I've seen and studied. Now I'm talking strictly in a matchup with Bonaventure not what Hofstra has been all year.

Another crappy half of basketball by The Pride...fundamentals just are not there...not boxing out...no weak side defense sliding over to help out...2 or 3 times in first half Rokus had guys easily drive right around him...taking stupid fouls...too much standing around on offense and defense...too much dribbling at wrong time...when was the last time a Hofstra player successfully stepped in and took a charge...

A win is a win....but WOW, how many times can we try and give a game away. We played well for the last 5 min of first half and first 15 minutes of second half. The rest was awful. I cant understand why we cant play at least OK and well. Boy do we really have some bad stretches of basketball.

None of the team's defense is all that great, but their late-game defense is absolutely atrocious.
With this win, HU's 7 game losing streak to the A10 was broken.

Here are Jon Rothstein's thoughts on the game…

Joe Mihalich continues to build up equity at Vincent's Clam Bar in Carle Place: Hofstra beats St. Bonaventure in Olean. The Pride are legit.

The CAA is performing like it's the 2010-11 season. Northeastern, Hofstra, William & Mary all own quality wins. Wilmington still unbeaten.

He mentions that UNCW is unbeated, but they better be with the crap teams they've been playing. They probably have the weakest SOS of any team in the conference, at least so far.

game pros - Malik played well (with energy and under control) - Much improved finishing at the hoop by Gustys (he's not missing like last year) - Excellent free throw shooting (how'd that happen??) - Green took control when we needed him.

Game cons - inconsistent play - inbounds plays - 7 man rotation (not enough) - still worried about Tanksley (his box score numbers look fine, but he just does not look the same) - Bernardi (without a feed for an open shot, he is not effective on offense)

A win against an A 10 team on the road is a good win any way you look at it...but the end of games are downright scary. Koon should not be in bounding the ball...he blew at least two at the end before Joe switched it up...

All in all we're 4-2 against a much tougher schedule and we should be 5-1...I'll take it!

The men's and women's team combined for 171 total points today! Anyone know the record for total combined points when both teams played on the same day? I wouldn't be surprised if that record was broken.

I'll take a road win anytime, especially against the A-10, but that's 2 disturbing endings in a row for this team. Has anyone seen a full court press before? Besides not being able to inbound the ball time after time, the other thing that drove me crazy was the Bonnies being able to roll the ball up to half court on the last 3 or 4 possessions. Coaching 101- make them touch the ball!! Just atrocious attention to detail at the end. Do we think a short bench is the reason we are struggling to break the press at the end of these games? These guys are tired. A 6 man rotation isn't going to cut it.

Great job from the line today by Green and Tanksley who were 20 for 21 between them. Thought Tanksley had his best game of the season also.

Overall, this was an up and down performance. The start and finish was poor, but in between that, they played some tremendous basketball which was good to see and shows you again if they can play a full 40 minutes like that instead of showing flashes, they will be a very difficult team to beat.

Clearly we are better coming from behind than holding at lead at this point in the season. The fact is, these are all teaching moments at this point in the season for the players, coaches, etc. The coaches are learning about how every player responds under different situations... this is all for CAA play. We're all complaint but how would you like to be a W&M fan after losing some huge lead to Howard today.

Don't forget, once we get Djambo our rotation goes to eight... plenty IMO

http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2016/ ... Wilmington says their SOS is 42nd out of 351 teams and second in the CAA behind Hofstra. None of their opponents are in great conferences, and if they didn't play anymore games but their opponents did their SOS would get worse. I also read they're 4-0 for the first time since 2005-2006 when they won the CAA Tournament.
