Great news that staff was on top of this and moved quickly! Love to see that and looks like a great pickup!

Very exciting news. He's got the size so as to not be pushed around near the hoop. Good pickup for this years squad and for providing Manyang some breathing room in his development.

Great pickup by staff for this late in the game but really not an upgrade as a number of posts have stated...

Iyiola PPG 7.1 REB 7.1 FG% .632 FT% 762 TO 17 ASSISTS 15 ////// Williams PPG 8 REB 3.7 FG% .608 FT% .643 TO 47 ASSISTS 8

More of a replacement but how often are you going to find a kid 6-9 240 with experience that can hit a layup this late in the game ???

Hats off to Speedy and staff!!!!!!!!!!!

This is huge and kudos to whoever was involved in this get. Like somebody already said it was an Omar for Williams trade between two colleges. I definitely like the analogy. This guy will be a better fit in the CAA where you have bulkier players who like to muscle up in the paint. When Williams goes to the bench Manyang will come in and we'll have a real shot blocker denier down low. This could work out to be a strength at the 5 for us not a weakness. This guy Williams is more of a PF where Manyang is more of a true center I believe. Feeling much better about this team now. Hopefully they won't hurt us from the foul line.

Captain wrote:Agreed Sid. Maybe Boachie-Yiadem starts initially with the freshman working his way in. Maybe the frosh will make an immediate splash. This is the CAA and guards generally rule anyway. Hoping the freshman becomes the best big Hofstra has ever had.
The depth chart was just challenged. Hope Tomasco is working his tail off in the gym and on the court. Opportunities abound.
Hope the kid from PA. who broke his ankle can shoot lights out for some instant offense. I think with our good coaching, we have some untapped potential in house and of course the capable veteran transfers we got. I like the team we have assembled.
I've said this before here let's not forget the redshirts because they can potentially help this team. IDK what Tomasco is going to give us but I'm cautiously optimistic that this kid Barrouk can be this guy who'll come off the bench and hit three's. It will be interesting to see what his game looks like and he has good size.Maybe a diamond in the ruff if he can stay healthy.

Williams shot FTs at 65% last year. Not too bad, although it was his best FT % year at the line. Hopefully he's on the upswing.

It's one of my biggest pet peeves guys that can't shoot FT's(Rokas Gustys) even Burgess wasn't a good FT shooter. That just sucks. It's part of what I really liked about Silverio. The difference in a W OR L. I like to have guys shoot at least 70% but sometimes it just doesn't happen.

Here's a long interview with Warren Williams with some insight into his background. https://youtu.be/OOm-80GJUWU

Also this info. I took from Manhattan's website which says in his junior year he averaged 11.5 ppg and was getting 7.3 rpg and 1.6 bpg. These stats are obviously more impressive Williams was averaging 27 minutes a game in 2020-21 but when Josh Roberts transferred in from St Johns Williams minutes dropped to 18 a game last year causing his overall numbers to suffer sharing playing time with Roberts.

2020-21 Junior Year
All-MAAC Third Team
One of the top big men in the MAAC … Averaged 11.5 ppg (19th MAAC), 7.3 rpg (3rd MAAC) and 1.6 bpg (5th MAAC) while shooting 56.8 percent (4th MAAC) from the floor … Ranked second in the MAAC with five double-doubles and seven double-digit rebounding performances … Notched double-figures in scoring 14 times, while pacing the MAAC in offensive rebounding with 3.1 caroms per game … Started all 20 games, playing an average of 26.8 minutes each time out … Over two games against Monmouth (2/5-2/6), averaged 18.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg while shooting 70.0 percent from the floor … In the opener, notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, before hitting for season-high 20 points, on 7-of-9 shooting, with nine rebounds and three assists in the finale … Matched his season-high with 20 points, on 8-of-10 shooting, against Fairfield (3/5) … At Siena (2/26-2/27), scored 15 points in the opener, before snaring 10 rebounds in the finale … Averaged 12.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 3.0 bpg over two games at Iona (2/12-2/13) … Registered his first career double-double with 10 point and a career-high 11 rebounds in victory at Delaware State (12/30) while adding four blocks … Followed that up with 19 points and nine rebounds at Quinnipiac (1/8) … Matched his career-high with 11 rebounds in win over Niagara (1/15), before posting a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to help complete a sweep of the Purple Eagles (1/16) … Averaged 13.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg over two games at Saint Peter’s (1/29-1/30), highlighted by going for 13 points and 11 rebounds in the finale … Scored 11 points in MAAC Championship match-up with Fairfield (3/9) ... Had 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks in victory over Rider (12/12).

Good message from Speedy to close the first day of practice:

"If the leadership comes from us (the coaches), we'll have a good team, we'll have a good year. But if the leadership comes from you guys, that's when we'll have a great team."

Yes, that was a great line...all looked to be participating except our new 7-footer, although he was one the sidelines. I think #35 is Williams and he looked BIG.

Dubar also looked like he added some muscle...looks more like a PF than a guard!

IDK who 25 is yet he looks small relatively speaking #32 is Plotnikov, #35 Williams, #33 is Nelson but I believe someone else is wearing that # in another shot? #4 and #25 are both guards. Looking at this a few times it appears that they switch jersey numbers at least the new guys. You can tell by their faces who some of them are.

In the opening video Nelson with his back to the camera has on Jersey #35 but just guessing after seeing pictures of Thomas I would say #33 in the opening shot. In other pictures you see someone else wearing #33!

Looks like only five players are returning from last year's roster:

0 Dubar
4 Estrada
11 Carlos
12 Barrouk
24 Marshall

So Tomasco is out too? If so, that would be pretty big (having the extra scholarship).

Thought I saw Tomasco in the videos of practice although I could be wrong. He's not listed in the transfer portal as far as I know.
