Hofstra softball 2021

Today is the delayed opening day for Hofstra softball. After an injury filled year last year Hofstra hopes to make up for that lost season.
First game against Villanova we win 15-4. Goelke and Giordano with 3 run home runs and Mantos with a 3 run triple. It was Mullin and Burns in the circle for us.
Second game starts in 20 minutes. No live Stats

Villanova is coached by Fordham’s former coach, so they are a very well coached team. Good start to the season!
Kristin Hallam just broke the Hofstra record for stolen bases, in the second game.

Just looking at the box scores Stu and two of those games that we lost were both close games and we lost both of them because of errors both winning runs that were scored in the last inning were unearned. Just sayin. Our freshman pitchers for the most part have been pitching. Not so well but pitching. Burns hasn't exactly been stellar need strike out pitchers like Galati. BTW What happened to McKenzie Suto?

Suto transferred out. Nikki Mullin not a freshman I believe has an ERA north of 10

So we are 5 games into the season and we are1-4. Villanova is my no means a good softball team . They are 6-7 now coming into the series they were 2-6.
So the good news is we are hitting .313 as a team and we are scoring over 6 runs a game. we outscored Villanova 33-32 but won only one game out of 5. We have hit 4 homeruns so far but 2 were in the first game blowout when we scored 15 runs.
The bad news PITCHING ouch!
Our ERA is 6.37 that will not get it done. we gave up 32 runs of which 27 were earned. Villanova hit .338 against us. Maddie Burns is the ace of our staff but her ERA is 4.30. In softball terms that is high. we have given up 11 home runs in 5 games and is on pace for record for giving up HRs. in a season. Here is a real eyeopener we have walked 18 and struck out only 8 in 5 games. Galati used to avg more in a 5 inning game.
Now coach Miller is supposed to be a pitching guru. He is in only his third season and I know the last two years we have to sort of give him a pass but we need to turn things around soon or this will be a lost season.

In a back and forth game we beat StJohns today 11-10 So we can hit but cant pitch or field although we turn a triple play today We almost gave away the game with 2 errors in the bottom of the 7th 11-10 is not going to be good for this team Softball is all about pitching D and timely hitting in that order This team is lacking in the first two and needs to be corrected St johns is another mediocre team at best

Why is this university constantly giving people passes? It's like every friggin sport there's an excuse. Lately I feel like I have to ask when I'm "allowed" to actually start expecting some winning ... but the go-ahead never happens - and in the increasingly rare moments when the true winning does happen, the reaction is akin to a miracle

There is zero excuse for Hofstra to not put up a competitive softball program. Softball is a sport that draws girls from all over the country and can recruit fairly easy at regional and national tournaments. Hofstra has the facility to compete with the big girl programs and to be at the top of pack in the northeast. Without pitching you’ll never win. I watch my daughter play high level softball year round, and without pitching, you’re done. I can honestly say I’m counting the days to the new President. We need to wright this ship. Quick.

So today we open with a 5-0 win over UMass lowell Maddie Burns with a complete game shutout she gave up 4 hits and had 1k but the best part was zero walks Lets see how our other pitchers do Game was a little sloppy as Lowell had about 3 or 4 errors but we tan our way out of some potentially big innings

We win the second game 3-2 and even our record at 4-4. Team is still a ways to go to be conference ready. We have not played a team with a winning record yet. If the pitchers pitch like they did today we have a shot to be decent. We are not in JMUs class yet. This season because of Covid we only play Towson Delaware and Drexel 10 times each before the CAA tournament down at JMU.
Now I looked at these teams records Delaware was 5-0 Drexel 4-0 and Towson 7-5.
Delaware outscored their opponents 50-7 and Drexel 53-4. Before anyone gets too excited they both did this against probably the worst D1 softball program in the country. That is Coppin State.

so hofstra with another DH sweep of the Riverhawks of UMass Lowell 4-1 and 7-4. They are a weak team that doesnt hit well. Still we pitched much better in this series than against Villanova. Now we still need to shore up the D a little and continue to get timely hitting as we face Delaware in a conference series next week. We play them 5 games as this covid schedule has us only playing the northern teams in conference play this year.

lets bump this to the top So tomorrow Hofstra plays Seton Hall at 3 pm. Seton hall is 5-12 on the season. Time to see this team put away a bad team early. Lets pitch well and tighten the D and we should win this one easily.

Softball game moved up to 230 in order to get the game in before the rain. Would like to have seen it moved to 1 pm but I guess the team cant get to South orange before 2 pm. Cmon fast Eddie you know the shortcuts.

Well we got the game in Should have saved us the trip to Jersey TeAm losses to a 5-12 team by a score of 6-2 Their pitcher had a 5.00 era coming in

Great weekend for the team against Towson, picking up the series sweet. Both games today they scored double digit runs, and game 2 was run-ruled.
Also broke the team’s 31 year olds record for number of stolen bases in a game in the first game today.

We stole 8 bases inthe first game and broke that record in the second game with10 bases for the series they stole 24 bases in 25 attempts
