Walker was a great athlete who had absolutely no basketball IQ....or sense....of course the coaches tried to work with him. What do you think they do during the more than 180 practices they have throughout the course of the year?

After two years if we saw no progress why keep him on the team. We could have recinded his scholarship and he could have transferred to another school

Does a school have the ability to rescind a scholarship for athletic reasons? What precedent would this set in regards to recruits being hesitant to come to a school that could essentially cut them if they aren't good enough.

Scholarships are renewed every year. If he was dogging itin practice I could see a coach rescinding the scholarship if a athlete wants to transfer. The school has to grant permission for him to transfer and they release him from his commitment to the school

Releasing a player at the players request is a lot different. Don’t have as much inside info as some of you guys but I haven’t heard of a school essentially forcing a player to transfer.

Coach goes into a player's home and essentially sells the recruit and their family on the notion that they have their best interest at heart and will look after them. It is not accepted practice to cut a player loose from their scholarship, barring extreme scenarios (ie stealing laptops) - doing so would widely be considered unethical and counterproductive. Now, the coach may be honest and suggest that they will never see the court and could facilitate their transfer, but if the player doesn't want to leave, they are kind of stuck with them.

Agreed Joe. Joe should have had a heart to heart with Walker. I could have seen him play for a lesser conference team or even a D2 school

All the years I've been on the board and reading "stuff" funniest thing I've ever read is the "Staff saying Walker was playing HS defense" Who the heck on that staff would know anything about defense. The whole team has been playing HS defense since JM got there! Talk about the pot calling the kettle...

That question was certainly asked and it was the opinion that the ball was just dropped on him no pun intended. He clearly had potential but I guess they couldn't turn the corner to up his game.

This was a quote from a player on the team and not from the staff but I'm sure this was the feeling of the staff as well. You're making a valid point here ZMAN but I don't want to re-open the argument about our "D" or lack thereof that would become redundant. Let it suffice to say that we all hope positive change is in the wind!!

Bring the man back home!!!!

Would be an awesome pickup. Could play a really strong 4 with an outside game or could play the 5 if needed. Scoring, boards, and experience.

I understand that there are dozens of schools interested, but being a LI school must carry some weight. Cmon Joe, this could be a great addition. highlights below:
