Cool, important to win this game...hope we are back at full strength and treat the SB lacrosse team like our men's basketball program did!

... and men's soccer (3-1 win), volleyball (3-0 sweep), and women's basketball (67-64 win). Softball was supposed to play SBU this past weekend, but that game was cancelled. Stony Brook hasn't won anything against us this year, and hopefully that doesn't change this weekend. There's a reason we're Long Island's real team.

I hope the team is healthy and ready to play tonight.

You know the game is a big deal when Major Leage Lacrosse is even tweeting about it...

Yes, the team that wins the conference hosts the semifinals and championship.

Shades of the Providence game...so sloppy down the stretch, can't clear when we need to. Only now we've committed a ton of dumb penalties. 9 penalties is awful, the team needs to learn to remain composed. The offense, which was so deadly for three quarters, totally stalled out.

A win is a win, but my gosh does team have to figure out how to play a decent 4th quarter. Stony Brook scored more goals in the 4th quarter (5) than they did the other 3 combined (4). Very sloppy play overall, with way too many penalties and turnovers, and multiple failed clears. The past two games have showed that team has a way's to go if they want to continue to be ranked as highly as they are, but they've proved they have the horses and the potential to do it.
Also have to expect a game against SB-Who to be close, we all knew the 6 goal lead wouldn't last.

7-0 for the first time in school history.

Again, a win is a win and I'll take it, but it's frustrating to watch the team look like a juggernaut half the time and then stumble due to their own mental mistakes.

Yes we scare everybody in the fourth quarter, but this year we are hanging on to win. Tierney's last goal was huge and Concannon is worth his weight in gold....we ROLL Stony BRook in EVERY sport this year! Wish we still played football!

Congratulations to Coach Tierney and the entire team...You guys are making us PROUD!

Mlax put the finishing touches on the day, with Hofstra sports going 4-0 today. Softball beat Fordham at their place, Wlax beat New Hampshire in New Hampshire, and Baseball beat NYIT at NYIT. Icing on the cake is that tonight's win was over Stony Brook, further cementing our Long Island dominance.

Great video Hofstra Pride just posted to youtube titled: MLAX: Hofstra Celebrates Best Start In Program History. Echoing what HUSID80 said, the team is certainly making everyone proud.

Ryan Tierney's bio says that he was also recruited by Denver. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if he had any other offers? For how good he is, I find it hard to believe that his only suitors were his father and his uncle, unless he's always made it very clear that he didn't want to play anywhere else.
And I assume he still counts as an athletic scholarship.
Btw, he had some great comments about the team chemisty in the post game presser. I would love to be a fly on the wall when the team goes bowling later.

While I love the idea that we are 7-0 these 4th quarter collapses are troubling. If we do this in conference play it will come back and bite us in the arse I don't know if it is fatique or the team losses focus. We seem to play up or down to our competition Still we are a very good team as our 7-0 indicates

Stu, it's only a collapse if we lose...we are HOLDING on to win these games. In past years we would find a way to lose these games...be thankful for this team this year...BEST START IN SCHOOL HISTORY.

On another note, typical Newsday...game story is buried...not even one of the six featured sports stories online...You can be sure that if SB won it would be splashed all over the paper!

Newsday is a joke in terms of HU, and a complete trash biased outlet. Their website even annoys the hell out of me forcing people to log in to view full content. I'm over them, and rarely ever visit. Let them live in HS land and continue their bush league level despite being in one of the most densely populated regions in the nation.

I guarantee there is not a single other major paper in a market with 3 million plus people that spends half their sports coverage on HIGH SCHOOL. They're weak.

They do it because that's the only reason anyone bothers to read it. That should tell them something. I get it, there is a market for that. However, at their level they should be focusing covering LI athletes BEYOND the HS level - showcase collegiate and pro careers, take it up a notch. They should create a spinoff outlet that focuses on HS and other low level stuff... like SBU. :P :P

Newsday itself should highlight higher levels, and the PRIDE of LI, the regions true D1 team. Until then I hope everyone on this board and otherwise is boycotting their nonsense as much as possible.

As for lax, well even I can't fault find a team that just broke a school record! I mean I know they are having trouble closing out, that is an ST trademark unfortunately, so should be no surprise. I am hoping and praying that one day they are going to mature past that as a program. But as HUSID mentioned, at least they are HOLDING ON ... so far. And that is a real improvement.

Agree, Stu, it cannot continue if they really want to prove their top 10, championship level ranking and worth. ST did state as much in the video. Need to play all 4 if you want to run with the big dogs when it matters most.

7-0 is 7-0, and there are only 3 other undefeated teams in D1. Take that and run for sure. Congrats to them on the big start. A LOT more still to prove. Like I said, ST and this program need to show their salt on 5/6. THEN we can talk real lax worthy of HU's tradition.

Huge win! 7-0!

I was at the game last night, we played awesome for stretches, we dominated the second and third quarters. Frankly, we got sloppy in the fourth, lost the last three faceoffs, took a few bad penalties, a few bad turnovers. Tierney called a good TO with 7 mins left when we were up 10-7, we got the biggest goal of the year from Ryan Tierney off the TO and played better defense after that point. No doubt there's some pressure on the team at 7-0, but I think pulling out so many of these close finishes will reward us in CAA play this year.

Concannon was a monster last night, he saved our bacon on multiple occasions. Awesome performance from Tierney, that last goal was so clutch and he made a great move on the defender to get the score. Solid performance from Yanes too, the offense was really clicking, only thing is we may have taken the foot off the pedal too soon, after that 10th goal, we struggled trying to run out the clock.

Hopefully the crowds come out for St. John's on Saturday. Truth is the Johnnies are a lot better than their record of 1-6. They've improved in their last four games, playing Syracuse to a 9-8 loss, playing Drexel close as well. They're going to bring a lot of pressure, it will be a really good test for us before starting conference play.

FD what was the size of the crowd...judging by the telecast, both teams seemed to have had fairly equal representation...what are your thoughts?
